Hey Eric, you said you wanted to know about further electronic support.

Code Monkey Publishing has August 24th as the release date for the data set containing all three 3.5 core rule books, and they have stated that they have plans to update material, just as Wizards does it.

E-Tools will not die.

I plan to buy the three core rulebooks.

Since I'm running two games based upon them and I still don't actually own a copy of any of them. (Although I did buy D20 Modern for my D20 Shadowrun, I don't actually own any of the core rulebooks for D&D, although for my Orbis campaign I've got a borrowed DMG and the SRD)

I figure that having been playing D&D for five years or so, I should probably actually BUY the books.

I'm picking up the 3 core books. I'll buy a pack of the randomized mini's and if I'm happy with them I'll buy more. (I'm a sucker for these things?)

I don't necessarily expect to use 3.5, but I like to collect.

I've already ordered the DMG, MM, and two PHB (along with Harry Potter). I also hesitantly voted that I would buy the minis. This is not because I greatly support the random packing, but I know that I can shill for 1 booster, just to see what they're like. I will probably pick up individuals when my local store starts carrying them. Strangely, this is the first product to come out that actually supports the gaming store in my case, because I usually order everything online.

My wife isn't too happy about the prepainted minis. She's worried I might replace her, now.

I'll probably get the three core rulebooks. But any other, it will depends. For example, I don't have enough info about that Unearthed Arcana to know if I'll put it on my to-get list or not. I may be interested in the Draconomicon, but once again, reviews, art gallery, and table of contents are going to be necessary before I make any decision.

About minis -- I like the notion of prepainted plastic minis, but random packs are a no-sale as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to guess if I'm going to have enough ogres or carrion crawlers or whatever.

Thank you, Eric, you saved me from typing that myself.

This game is so dynamic as far as rules go. I have been having a great deal of fun with 3E and the OGL has opened up so many ways to contribute to the rules that I wonder if there is a need to buy more "official" rules. Many of the variant rules that have been posted here and elsewhere, as well as in group rules discussions, have served my DMing purposes . That being said, some rules changes posted by users to the web, and from in group players, have been found to be terrible after using them in play. The point being that weeding out good signal from the noise can be time consuming in such a dynamic system.

Plus the fact that 3.5E is going to be in the SRD. It is well worth my time to download, edit the way I want, and print. Or just download and pick out stuff to shove into or replace the 3E rules that clarify or balance things (like classes, AOO, spells). Since the base mechanic is there I'm hoping that might be easy enough.

Sometimes I wonder if it might be less of a headache to go back to a "dead" D and D system like 1E (never played 2E). As long as me and the players are having fun it doesn't really matter what system we play. Plus the old rules are so inexepensive and available as downloadable files from the web that just about anyone can afford them. I mean 5 bucks for a 1E e-file PH? That's great!

As far as 90 bucks for three beautiful books I don't think that's a bad deal. But 90 is 90. The other concern is that - I will go out on a limb here and bet that - there will be just as much discussion, controversy, and on the fly changes in interpretations about this rules set as there has been for 3.0. That's with any kind of rules, really, but with "living" rules there is a lot of background noise to wade through. When I game I would rather focus on playing the game than playtesting a bunch of new rules changes. At least with 1E I think there has been enough time (and veterens that have posted tried and true rules fixes) to develop good, thoroughly tested changes that can be incorporated into the game without having to go a month or two (or longer! :D) before realizing that the rule was just not designed well.

My 2 cents worth on why I will not buy the new rules books.

Wow. Uhhh, which mini is that, and how do I get one?

FWIW, I'm getting all three books ASAP. Our campaign is young, and almost all the players are eager for th' changes. I mean, come on, who's gonna play a whimpy, front-loaded, style-less 3e ranger after th' 3.5e ranger comes out?

And are some of you nay-sayers implying that a simplified combat chapter is a *bad* thing? Or that Skill Focus should remain +2? Or that Haste didn't need a re-write? Etc. Come on........pony up the $65.50 an' be done with it. (Insert worthless comparison with movie tickets, etc.)

Just a quick nitpick to say that the vote (paraphrase): "I'm not buying 3.5E because those money grubbers ain't gettin' my money" isn't indicitive of why I will not buy 3.5E.

I don't mind at all paying for product that I want and think is worth my money. I think the core rulebooks version of 3.5E is overdone and, as a consequence, overpriced.

On the other hand the SRD is a great bargain.

While I am not happy at having to shell out $100, I will definitely will pick up the three core books because I am satisfied with the majority of changes made in 3.5.
