I really hope the new adventure path is Mass Effect

Ender certainly seems a good possibility (I could in particular see Card signing on). Unfortunately, my reading tastes trend more toward fantasy than sci-fi so most likely whatever it is I'll be getting the novel(s) to check it out for the first time. Some possibilities:

Dune (is there an RPG?)
Hitchhiker's could actually work, though calling it an opera is perhaps a bit of a stretch.
Galactic Milieu by Julian May would be friggin awesome but I'm not sure it carries as much name recognition as some of the others.

*in light of the "it's a book" psuedo-announcement, is hoping in vain that it's based on Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space universe*

Conjoiners and Inhibitors! Nevil Clavain!

Yeah, that would be an interesting one. Or Iain Banks etc.

I'm pretty sure Dune has been done, but I don't think there has been anything on that front in a long time. Ender might be one that could be done, sure.

There are a bajillion other possibilities though. Honor Harrington, John Ringo, Fred Saberhagen, Vernor Vinge, David Brinn, etc etc etc etc. More than you could spit at in a week. I guess we'll know soon enough. How about Jack Vance? lol.

Personally I would bet more on something that is currently hot. It would seem odd for some of the older stuff to suddenly get licensed for an RPG. That doesn't happen often. More likely whatever publishers are pumping the PR wave on right now.

Barsoom would be the ultimate choice for this...
That's my guess.

Although I would bet Morrus would drool vast puddles if the Dr. Who product was dangled in front of him.

Has anyone mentioned these yet? Miles Vorkosigan Saga; Aasimov's Foundation universe; the Hyperion books by Simmons; or Vernor Vinge's Fire Upon the Deep/A Deepness in the Sky.

Thinking about it more, it would be most easily based on the planetary romance books -- flashing blades, strange races, etc.

Barsoom would be the ultimate choice for this, but there are others like maybe the Ginger Star or Green Star series?
Barsoom would be cool.

Please expound. I once tried to develop a Mass Effect game for GURPS. I ran into problems when some races, specifically asari and krogan, ended up with massive point costs.

I haven't played such a game myself, but here's a link to the extensive thread on WotC's Star Wars forums on the subject of creating Mass Effect game elements using the SWSE rules.

Miles Vorkosigan Saga

I'd love to see an RPG campaign based in the Vorkosiverse. Lensmen would be very good as well.

There's a GURPS Vorkosigan book, which I've got on PDF but haven't read yet (I'm not a fan of the GURPS system but bought it because I like the stories so much!).

So that would be my dream space opera ish setting too.

Mass Effect would be wicked. For some reason, Firefly immediately popped to mind, but clearly there is already an RPG with that license. Didn't think of Buck Rogers, but that could fit.

How about Farscape or Stargate?

Stargate's been done by AEG before. Back in 2003 IIRC.
