D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

After allowing the Sticks to discuss the matter, the snake-headed man introduced himself by saying, "I am Yahru. I ssuppose you would ssay that I am an advissor to our 'King' - Ras Nsi. It is he who leadss the Yuan Ti of Omu. If I assk him, he may wish to sspeak with you. Would you like me to ssee if you may have an audiensse with our leader? Alternately, if you wissh to receive the blesssing of Dendar the Night Sserpent, I can bring you to our high-priest, Dream-Sspeaker Fenthaza."

He led the Sticks (with four other yuan-ti, including Ussal, as guards/escorts) to a magnificent but ruined palace. Behind the wall of a crumbled wing, that had once been a series of baths, he had Ussal open the entrance to a hidden passageway that wound down a wet, rough-worked tunnel that led deep into the earth, but thankfully out of the sun.

"We desscend here." he said, gesturing forward and sending a snake-man ahead of them, "It iss perfectly ssafe."

OOC: Just making sure everyone is still happy to follow before I move ahead.

He is leading them through what is considered a "secret" way into the fane. Ussal is unsure if this is because he wants to keep the characters a secret from his superiors (it is possible that he plans to use them against someone - there are plots within plots among these people), or if he wants to keep the true layout of the Fane a secret from the Sticks. Or if he plans to feed them to the Hydra that lives in the underground lake that is down this tunnel, or take them to the slave pens, which are also this way. What is clear to Ussal, is that he expects Ussal to guard them without question. Ussal is also technically in command of the other three yaun-ti. If you have any questions, PM me.

Dellrak grumbled into his beard as they followed the serpentfolk, but getting underground was a relief to the dwarf, out of the hot sun and with good, solid stone over his head. He kept his hands near his axes, however, and one eye on the yuan-ti, but they did not seem hostile.

Myrral joins the snake-man.
"I think your leader is better yuan-ti to see. Your priest may agree to something and then the leader can override it. Lets make a deal at the top. Unless it is spiritual thing, which this isn't, you always talk to the chief and not the shaman."

Ussal thanks all the gods for closed-in full helm as he doesn't have to hide a smirk. If the high-priest ever hears about being called a shaman by this savage he may even show emotion.

Slithering up front, with only the scout before him, he can listen in as he keeps an eye out for any threats and watches the way. If they are going to Ras Nsi he would like to be there. If these people are to be slaves he may have to look for other means of escape.

"Oh, how much easier it would be to know what is in the scales." he thinks as he occasionally warns one of rear guards to keep better watch and not to lag behind.

The air in the tunnel was wet and sticky, and the walls were slick with moisture. Though it was cooler here than the blazing heat above, there was no escaping the Chultan damp - nor the insects - harmless centipedes crawled across the floor and walls. Eventually the tunnel opened to a cavern on the banks of an underground river. Two rowboats were tied to a peg on the riverbank, and the cavern went off into cool wet darkness to the east.

Four twisted-looking snake-people guarded in pairs; a tunnel to the west; and an unassuming door built into a stone wall to the north. The guards hissed and made aggressive gestures toward the Sticks, but obeyed Ussal when he stood them down with a sharp hiss.

"Wait here and I will assk Ras Nsi if he choosess to meet with you." said Yahru before heading through the north door.

The tunnel to the west leads to the slave grotto. Being a Harper, I assume that you loathe the slavemaster Issar, who is the worst of that sort: cruel, vain, and lazy. There's currently 17 non-yuan-ti slaves that haven't been worked to death.

OOC: Anyone want to do anything while you wait?

Miss Imogen has nodded when Myrral suggested she take part in the negotiations.

"I shall do what I can, which is I guess all any of us may do." She says. She is quiet, and in these cramped quarters does not know how or whether she can use her bow. Though her hip-quiver remains hanging from a loop in her dress (hard to notice, perhaps, until people see her remove the belt beside it and use it as a weapn, ans she has done. In any case, the bow is slung over her shoulder.

As Yahru prepares to depart, Miss imogen offers a curtsy. "We would be thankful if he could. May his appetites be sated through our meeting."

They reached the cavern and Dellrak eyed the other yuan-ti standing guard. The dwarf gripped his axes when they hissed at the Sticks, and he growled into his beard right back. But they calmed down, and it looked like they would be left waiting here for a while.

Pulling his axes, Dellrak sat himself down, axes across his knees, and closed his eyes, promptly nodding off. Might as well catch a nap while he could. It had been a long, hard day.

"What do you think that they plan to do with us?" asked Orvex, the Thayan scribe who had accompanied the Sticks since they had intended to forge a relationship with the Red Wizards.

It seemed that the water of the underground river was potable, which was unusual for Chultan ground water. (This was discovered when Ghorukk, the Thayan orc, began to drink it without consulting anyone. When he seemed to suffer no ill effects, the water was tested by others and found to be safe).

In addition, the air was cooler than any that the Sticks had felt since they had arrived on the Swordcoaster, so many months ago.

"Hopefully, they need someone to help with the curse. If they suffer the same effects and given their priests, they probably have an elite that was resurrected at some point. And better we than them, right? They will give us some minor contingent of soldiers to keep an eye on us."
responds Myrral and then adds with a toothy grin
"Or they just need more slaves. You should be familiar with the practice"
