D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

The inner workings of latches and doors was slightly outside of Ghorrak's skill set, so he simply braced himself against the door. He could at least keep it closed if the tomb guardian tried to get out before someone else came up with a plan.

Large metal fists and swinging chains pounded on the secret door with great force. For the moment, Chrysagon and Ghorruk held the Tomb Guardian at bay, shoving at the slab with all their combined might.

Weed squeaked and pointed a leafy hand. At the far side of the grand staircase, now dimly lit in the light of Chrysagon's flail and the ghost lantern held by Qawasha, a large skeletal figure climbed over the railing from the level up. It scuttled along the ceiling of the balcony-like level above, and then dropped onto the same level as the Sticks. It had a strange, elongated head that ended in a bronze-encased octagon "crown".

It didn't appear to be paying any attention at all to the activity by the secret door.

Wrok the broodguard decides, in the absence of contradicting orders from any of the other yuan ti, to help hold the door against the remaining tomb guardian.

Ussal grabs a handful of pitons and a hammer pulled from somewhere from his armor and starts securing the door as fast as he can.

"Thisss may not hold it for long. Enchant what you can, prepare to focusss on it the moment it goesss through. We cannot afford I think to leave it behind to follow usss when we may be otherwise occupied."

Chrysagon, Ghorruk, and Mrok the broodguard (his name known only to himself) held the door as Ussal spiked it with pitons. The Tomb Guardian lay powerful blows from the other side, but the small, diverse group held fast. Once the pitons were in place, the door was stuck fast.

OOC: I'll give it one go: The Sticks (and they're beginning to all count as Sticks) will roll with Ghorruk's strength bonus (he's strongest) with advantage for the help. This will set the dc of the pitons, once everyone lets go. The Tomb Guardian will have advantage, because the door opens outward, but will have to beat the new piton dc to open the door. Here it is:
Sticks' Check: 2D20.HIGH(1)+4 = [10, 18]+4 = 22
Tomb Guardian's 1st attempt vs door dc22: 2D20.HIGH(1)+4 = [13, 5]+4 = 17
Nope. He's gonna need an 18 on the d20. It'll take awhile.

Miss Imogen proceeds east 10 or 15', to give clear access to the staircase down for her companions. "We've got company," she says, more to herself than the others, and readies her first arrow, set to fire if the skittering creature makes any move towards her.

"Weed, sweetie, be careful. Raise the lantern," she orders. The sharpness in her tone is indicsting desperation more than anything else.

Two quick arrows are released, though only the first finds its mark, and then another two, with again one striking true.

OOC: Move 15' east, with weed perhaps going the first 5' down the stairs.
Action: Attack: 2x1d20+4= 18 and 6. Assuming 18 hits, damage = 1d8+14=22 piercing.

Action Surge!

Action: attack: 2x1d20+4= 9 and 21. Assuming 21 hits, damage= 1d8+14=20 piercing.

OOC: Why attack it? It didn't pay any attention to us? We don't need to aggro everything in here :) I agree it is probably hostile, but that 'archivist' wasn't dangerous.
