Brinestump Marsh: New Fish Trail

Both Jariah and Wireth agree upon the direction the creature was going and believe they could track it. The path is currently heading roughly south and the creature seams to be heading east. No one seems to be able to determine what it is, though.

Elsbeth

Elsbeth watched warily from side to side looking for any monsters.

"Do you really think it's just an alligator? Well, as long as it was here a couple of days ago, we should be safe."

"A couple of hours?" whispers Suldrel, a bit nonplussed. "It could have been a couple of minutes." Looking again the elf says, "I want to see we should just keep on to the warden's hut, but I am a bit worried that whatever this creature is may have waylaid him upon the path. In a swamp, it will only get harder to track if we leave it now."

Fastus swallowed the reassuring lie he was about to spout: honesty WAS probably the best policy, right?

But then he got a bit distracted as beasts DID come swarming out of the swamp, hungry for blood. But they were tiny, and buzzing and not really what he'd had in mind at all! He slapped at his arm: "Ow." And then: "Oh. Right. Bug goop!"

The young blacksmith unslung his pack and came back up with the goods, spilling round jars and tiny vials out on top of it (and a bit in the mud too). "Got plenty for everybody if you guys want some?" he offered, rather proud the three of them had thought of this in the first place!

He himself took one of the vials and quickly spread its content over his face, neck and hands. "That'll teach them."

He didn't really have an opinion on the tracks one way or another, obviously ready to follow adventure whatever way it led.

OOC: If you do want some goop, please specify vial or jar so I can keep track.

Content to not have to get his fur covered in swamp water while tracking alligators, Jakira stayed on the path. He did not need to sully his fur with any of the blacksmith’s goop either.

Jariah looked around on the ground a moment as the others were dealing the ointment and then shook her head at Suldrel’s comments.

“I see no evidence of a struggle, do you?”

“Just because we found an errant footprint in a swamp full of all kinds of creatures, it does not necessarily mean something happened to the Warden. I find it hard to believe he would be inconvenienced by any of the typical swamp denizens in his own backyard.”

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

Wireth stands, nodding.

"I'm going to agree with Jariah," he offers. "If it was here so soon and didn't want anything to do with us, it might be best to let it be on its way. We're likely to run into more critters on the way.

"It's only a little further to the Warden's, and if we're trying to track him, that's probably a better place to start. Maybe he'll intersect these, but at least we'd know we were following him and not discover we're entirely off the trail?"

Wireth sure didn't TALK like the orcs in the stories, did he?

Fastus looked back towards Sachiko's older brother: "Should we split up?" he inquired, obviously willing.

"No. Absolutely not," replies Suldrel flatly. "Under no circumstances will we split up while in this swamp." Without saying anything else he steps back onto the path toward the warden's house.

Brinestump Marsh: New Fish Trail

You continue on the trail toward the warden's house. As you are crossing the third and final bridge it is the turkey vulture, Nairo, that alerts Wireth to the odd find. Just ahead is a strangely mutilated animal on the trail. As everyone moves forward to investigate, Elsbeth and Jariah both spot something back across the bridge that you have all just crossed.

[sblock=Elsbeth/Jariah only]You see a human-shaped figure watching from a distant gap in the undergrowth. But when you try to point it out to the others it is no longer there. It is as if the figure just vanished.[/sblock]
