Brinestump Marsh: Outside Walthus' House Combat - Surprise Round Wrapup
The halfling suddenly attacks Elsbeth changing into a a wrinkled, hunch-backed humanoid creature with mottled brown-and-red flesh and a spherical head with no true face—only a crooked slit from which a rasplike tongue periodically lashes and licks.
Sachiko, for all her faults, did not have slow reactions. Indeed, the creature had barely revealed itself before there was a whisper of steel on leather scabbard and Sachiko had her sword out and at the ready!
She dipped her head down lower and stooped slightly; an odd stance for fighting, and said, "Oh, well that explains everything!" Sachiko will be ready to attack next round.
Jariah was taken aback by the Warden’s transformation and was nearly caught off guard. The mental exchange between her and her eidolon was near instantaneous ans she warned the magical cat.
She stepped aside and invoked a cantrip to send acid flaying into the fray. The little globule hit the transformed Warden. The creature screeches with pain as the globule strikes his left arm.
“Eewwyuck! Don’t let it lick you!”
Unknown to everyone except Elsbeth, she stabilizes and no longer is in danger of dying.
At the command of his master Nairo holds position.
Fastus was halfway into the house, belly on the window's loggy edge, when the screaming started. He definitively recognized Elli's voice!
"What the-?" He will be able to act in the next round.
Seeing how quickly the creature fells Elsbeth, Wireth orders Nairo to stay back, instead charging in himself. While the force of his swing is impressive, that's only apparent in the massive chunk of ground he manages to chunk up when he misses the creature. What follows are a string of orcish curses. The ground is a bit more frightened then before.
With Wireth stepping in front of his line of approach, the eidolon could not follow his mistress’s command to charge into the fray. After a brief mental exchange, the magical feline maneuvered around to stand over the unconscious Elsbeth protectively.
He snarled at the warden, “Doncha lick me, I’m gonna bite ya.” He is ready to attack.
Watching the swamp, Suldrel is caught completely by surprise by the attack of the "Warden". He will be able to act in the next round.
