"Ah, too bad," said the blacksmith in response to his exciting plan taking a dive: that would have been fun to WATCH! Instead he picked up a corner of fretting-Sachiko's new cloak and shook it about a bit: "So what does this do?" he asked the warden. "Something sneaky probably, right?"

The warden shrugs. "I am not quite sure. I do know that it is magical. I am just not quite sure what it does. Try it out and see, I guess."

<<Backtracking a bit :)>>

As the halfing worked on the meal, Sachiko spent quite a bit of time running around exploring near the hut,
with Fastus right behind, periodically suggesting things like "Flip up the hood?", "Twirl it like a whirlwind?" or "Flap around like you had wings?" in an enthousiastic effort to figure out what the cloak DID.

(He'd always found magical stuff... burningly fascinating!)

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

After supper, when setting out, she stays on Wireth's heels, imitating his every move.

"Does he talk?" she asks him in a low voice when Nairo has taken wing. "I saw a bird that talks once. It only said a couple of things though."

Wireth found himself nonplussed by the small hu-- by Sachiko's sudden interest. He was used to humans watching his movements, but it was usually an effort to police him. The imitation was new.

"Nairo?" Wireth responds to the question with a raised eyebrow. "Not exactly. Nairo's not magical like Jakira, and turkey vultures don't have the right kind of anatomy to shape words. I expect you met a raven? Maybe a macaw with a travelling show? They're special in the animal world for being able to mimic.

"He still communicates, mind you, it's just not words, so I've had to learn to tell his calls from one another, read his body language, that kind of thing."

As he spoke about his vulture companion, the half-orc's natural tension seemed to ease. By the time he was done, there was even the slightest hint of a smile on his lips.

You back track the way you came crossing back over the three bridges. Then you travel down the Lost Coast Road. Along the way you briefly greet the sheriff and two of his men as they patrol the road. After traveling for about a mile you spot a path heading back into the swamp. You take what you now know to be the Old Fish Trail. This trail has only one bridge. The entire trip is uneventful save for the brief encounter with the sheriff and his men. After just under two hours you arrive at what must be the goblin village. A filthy village-fort surrounded by a crude wooden palisade sits atop a low hummock of solid ground here. A wooden gate in the north wall of the palisade lies in shambles on the ground.

Suldrel sniffs at the air and looks for signs of fires as he scans the scene. That broken gate in particular: has the village already been sacked? "On your guard, everyone," he whispers. "Unless this is a goblin ambush of some sort, whatever attacked the Warden could have allies of its own here."

OOC: Perception: 1d20+8=14, Survival: 1d20+6=21, Craft (Carpentry): 1d20+5=7. The last roll being to see if he can tell what might have brought down the gate. I was actually kind of hoping that would be the good roll, hehehe. Oh well.

Elsbeth

"The gate could have been broken by a wild animal that got loose like a boar." she suggested, hoping it really wasn't some large fierce creature.

"Any there any tracks or anything? Maybe we can figure out what it was."

"I KNEW it was a good idea," smiled back the lion-haired one, though he looked a bit worried nonetheless: "Where are they all though, Sachi? Can't have killed ALL of them... Right?"

He quickly unslung BOTH shield and 'mace' - which was little more than a square bar of iron with an improvised leather wrap on it - whispering towards the three older kids: "What do we do? Charge in? I could climb the fence."

He was rather good at climbing things...

OOC: Just for the heck of it:
Perception (to spot goblins in village or swamp): 1d20-1=17, Blacksmithing (to see if or how fire was involved): 1d20+3=8

Jariah was expecting they would have found some goblins before reaching the village and her brow wrinkled in thought. She was not sure of anything to offer an opinion as she remained towards the back of the group.

Jakira was not so quiet, “Eh? Wherrre be they? We no git rrrewarrrd iffin we don’t get no earrrs.”
