So that was a resounding 'no' on ALL fronts... right? (And he'd really, REALLY been looking forward to spending the day at the inn now, with her -- In the four heartbeats since he'd come up with the plan, you know?)

"Probably? I mean: sure! Right?" the young blacksmith answered the jibe like he thought he should. He looked into those velvet midnight eyes, far from certain: 'Everything covered' but 'too busy to come'? How did that make SENSE? "Have- Have a nice day?"

Fastus beat a hasty, ignominious retreat.

Only when he was on his way back to the table did he start remembering that, in the heat of things, he'd just waved away Sachiko's brother -- burning SULDREL of all people! The man he admired most in all of Sandpoint!

They HADN'T started looking at the map yet, which was probably not a good sign either...

"Uh.... Sorry about that?" he tried when he got there, addressing Suldrel directly. "She- was acting weird and then Sachiko- So I got concerned, right? But that didn't work so I opened myself up, like she said you should. And that's when you-" He trailed off, feeling drowned-cat miserable.

And this had started out like such a great day too!

Elsbeth

Elsbeth was at a loss for words. She was unacustomed to people asking for her opinion on anything important.

"Uh, yes. That sounds like a good idea. We should check out the locations that are the closest first. Does everyone have what they need?"

Suldrel rubs his right temple with his thumb. "Yes, I think so," he says, addressing Elsbeth. "I picked up the last few things my sister wanted this morning before I came here." The exorbitant cost of the alchemical items had dismayed him, but he had purchased them anyway, splitting the cost between the gold Sachiko had given him and his own reserve.

As for Fastus... He was not pleased by the blacksmith's dismissiveness a few moments earlier, but the elf preferred to just focus on the task at hand. None of them were in this 'quest' for their stellar social graces. Certainly not him. Nor the half-orc, nor... "If I do not hear any complaints about whatever 'this' was later on, I will just try to forget about."

Now what did that map say?

Jariah nodded as Sachiko confirmed that Fastus was still bothering the innkeeper. “Oh, I don’t think Ameiko would be so cruel… unless Fastus deserved it.” She shrugged at the idea, since it was quite possible for the young blacksmith to get on someone’s nerves that much.

Jakira’s head rose up and he looked at Sachiko with narrowed eyes, “She’s not alone, I’m herrre.” His tone was hinting at indignation like he was expecting to be called merely a pet by Sachiko.

Even so, Jariah petted her eidolon’s head with a gentle skirching behind the ears that would eventually make him purr.

Now what did that map say?

The map has five X's marking locations. One has been identified as the goblin village. The closest unidentified location is near the goblin village. The locations (in the order of closest first) are:

A: Goblin Village
B: A spot on the shore of an inlet
C: A spot on the shore of an inlet
D: A spot on the shore of an inlet
E: A spot on the landward edge of the swamp

"If I do not hear any complaints about whatever 'this' was later on, I will just try to forget about."

Now what did that map say?
The young man looked up, somewhat warily... "Really?"

Well... maybe the day wasn't going to be so bad after all... right?

And, because it was true: "Thanks. For saying you wanted her to come I mean. The- three of us appreciate it."

He felt it was safer to quickly shift HIMSELF left after that though, next to Elsbeth and away from the center of -- whatever it was they were talking about...

Wireth frowned as he considered the map.

[color669966]"Do we think it a coincidence that all these locations seem to be near water? I mean, with the swampland, I suppose it could be, but it's worth considering. We may be facing a water-based force. The undead certainly have no need to breathe, right?"[/color]

Wireth pointed to the nearest inlet point on the map. "I'm not inclined to take a boat ourselves, if indeed we're dealing with something that's at home underwater; only encourages them to drag us under where we're most assuredly not at home. So we trek past the first camp to here, and see what there is to see?"

"I am not sure that our foe will be applying tactics or stratagems of that sort," says Suldrel. "The goblin said that they originally chased off the skeletons by throwing coins from the treasure at them, did he not? That des not exactly scream, 'competent command' to me. I think I favour sticking to your original idea and just investigating each location in turn."

"She was like ice," Fastus whispered to Elli as the others discussed. He was following Ameiko's moves across the common room, obviously troubled. "Not cold, but... I just COULDN'T get a GRIP."

Kept slipping off, right?

Elsbeth

Elsbeth watched Ameiko for several seconds. True, she did seem preoccupied. Maybe she was just tired between running two businesses?

"It could be nothing Fastus. She might just be overworked. The demands of running 2 businesses might be too much for her. I hope she is not ill. I have heard that it is easier to get sick when one is overtired."
