[IC] SWS/DnD5, Star Wars the Old Republic – A Gathering Darkness

Cal shrugged, somewhat dismissively. "From my experience with Czerka, exploiting a native species is right up their alley. I'd be willing to wager a fair amount of credit that the Kwi are only responding in kind. As far as these Dathomir crystals... I'm honestly not that concerned if the Republic has ulterior motives here, as long as they treat the Kwi with the respect a native species deserves."

Meanwhile, a thousand lightyears away in a dark room sits a brooding figure. Cloaked in shadow, anger and rage wash over the figure as it awaits its servant. A few minutes later there is a chime at the door and a hooded humanoid quickly enters and knees down before his master. In a deep baritone he says “Master Malseth, Intelligence has received reports that a nexus point of the weapon has been located in the Quelii sector of Republic Space. They anticipate that the weapon must be located there. I have dispatched Shadow Strike teams to each of planet there. Each team includes a Warlock Seer as you instructed. They will located the weapon and report back as soon as we know…

Standing and striding forward, the tall male Kaleesh strides into the light of the room. His red skin almost glossy with the glow of fevered anticipation. “Most excellent news Gallith. Most excellent news indeed. Inform General Voljar to mobilize the Star Strike Legion and put them on standby. When the weapon is located I want him to seize whatever system it is located at and hold it before the Republic knows what is going on. With that weapon I can crush the Republic in days...” Smiling he returns to his throne and slips back into the shadows.

At once my Lord Malseth” the hooded figure replies as he springs to his feet and almost flees the room.

The gand settles back and slightly lowers his head... "Gd Kl Drmu ask'kt ckfajde lksq kl grkt This gand will be most grateful for Cal Domaru's help in finding the truth."

(Which, by her general attitude, by the tilt of her armored head, might - just possibly - be the gand way of saying: Prove it to us.)

She'll wait for any suggestion, opinion or reply.

---

Over the next few days, the others can often find the gand seated in the common area, legs-folded under her and datapad lighting his face from below, going over her recently acquired datacards on mining practices, the Quelii sector and Dathomir in particular (it seems particularly interested by the Kwi and by sector history for some reason, cross-referencing the new data with some of its own). If not there, she can probably be seen going about the ship -- organizing the content of the lifeboat and supply closet, testing the functions of their one spacesuit, anything to feel useful.

Meals are a quiet time for her, although everything it eats has to be pulped, liquidized and injected through the machined disk of the breather mask/vocoder with a flexible metal straw. (He's surprisingly clean and downright fussy about it though, only pulping one thing at a time so as not to mix the tastes; and she seems to be getting all her water needs from the food he eats too.)

If Kacela practices something martial, the gand will quietly observe from somewhere out of the way, if that's not too intrusive, asking a few questions about her life with the Jedi when the time seems right (pauses, afterwards). If that goes well, she would ask to join her in practice some of the time if possible, in her usual, self-effacing way?

Anything of note in the junk?

The days pass without much excitement although this Gand is about to scrap enough junk together to maybe jury-rig some minor piece of machinery or electronic.*

Meanwhile on Dathomir, Jihahna had arrive earlier in the day on a transport that had bought a number of mercenaries and young bounty hunters planetside for a job against some nasty beasts harassing local miners. The cred sounded good but when she arrived there was a rep from the Republic Survey Corp, a female togruta female by the name of Vivian Rell spoke with the group informing that the 'beasts' they had been hired to hunt down where in fact sentient. The miner that had meet her and the other mercs then doubled the bounty... most took them.

Jihahna had not felt comfortable with killing some primitive natives with blasters while they were armed with at best spears and clubs or their claws. Of course without a job or some extra cred she might have been stranded here. And something about the planet bothered her. Like a scratch she could not itch... something she has not felt often but when she had something bad was coming.

Vivian Rell then asked the young fringer if she would be interested working for the Survey Corp. "I'm trying to stop a massacre of the natives here. If you are not going to be part of the problem maybe you would like to be part of the solution.?"

GM: *Depending on what this Gand would like to scrap together. There is enough junk around that you might make some simple tools, two or three glow rods, a dozen energy or power cells maybe a minor power generator that would last for a couple of 'charges' etc.

Jihahna can make a Charisma (Use the Force) check to get a general feel about the planet. Right now she is sensing something but she is not sure what is bothering her about the place.

Caught off guard by the representatives offer, Jihahna took a step back, looking down at her feet for a moment, lips open in a cross between a pout and some sort of confusion. Her arms crossed in a protective withdrawal, almost as if the words spoken to her were hurtful.

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other and flicked her head up to the side, glaring at the woman almost accusingly and began speaking to her, freeing her left arm and raising the palm of her left hand to clear her fringe from her face.

Her words flowed devoid of emotion, cold. "Ms. Rell, given that the contract work with Czerka was based on the premise that the creatures I was to eliminate were not sentient, whether deliberately or unawares, they have rendered the initial agreement invalid."

She straightens herself, standing at ease. "As such, I am not required to follow any of the clauses tied in with said contract stipulating that I must avoid taking up any work that may conflict with Czerka in this sector.

I suspect that instead of being honest in the first place, Czerka simply planned all along to offer the 'greater bounty' after their contractors took so much time and effort to get here, never mind the stray few who refuse."

Jihahna politely looked about to see if anyone else was listening in. "I... will assist you, but I will not be 'swapping sides' just to find myself butchering other innocents. I will need to know more precisely what i'll be doing sometime soon. In the meantime, perhaps I can complete some small tasks for you now? I'm only 50 credits from purchasing a new tool kit and am keen to start working with a recent skill i have aquired that may prove valuable to our cause somehow in future.

Otherwise, at the very least, I will keep watch and make sure you don't find yourself beaten around the head by any 'Czerka sympathisers'. I don't have anything better to do and, well, work is what I know."

With that, Jihahna went silent as she waited for a response. In that moment, that damn gut feeling re-appeared. Normally she tried to repress this feeling. It always meant trouble, but this time it hit her quickly, a rush of... [sblock=Use the force]1d20+2[/sblock]

[sblock=Use the force]Whoops. Sorry, I used sblock instead of roll... Take 2.... [roll0][/sblock]

As quickly as the feeling came, Jihahna pushed it aside, waiting for the response from the rep.

Not really sure what is bugging her about this place, this world...Jihahna is just not sure. Maybe its nothing, just getting jumpy.

"I want a peaceful resolution to this situation, no more bloodshed on either side." says Vivian Rell, shaking the fringer back to the present. "At least that's my hope. Some background here is that the miners found a new reserve in the mountains and set up shop there. The natives species, the Kwi, had been being used as domestic animals. They were not overly violent and no one knew their were sentient."

Pausing to look up at the nearby mountains she continues "But when Czerka set up shop in the mountain the Kwi turned violent. They started attacking the miners and I believe two were killed. We don't know what caused there sudden change but that's when the company brought you and the other mercs in. "

"My team has been studying the planet and the animals here for a few months and just a few days ago figure out that the Kwi are sentient. The problem is their language is simply untranslatable, or near enough to. We have been working hard on upgrading our G3 translator droid with every piece of data we can squeeze into it and we think we might have something close. I hope.."

Meeting Jihahna gaze Vivian adds "Look I am also excepting some help from the Republic tomorrow. I can offer you 500 credits to tag along and assist them in any way you can. The more boots on the ground the better change we have of resolving this peacefully."

This was mostly to get on Kaldo's good side further down the road (and to keep busy), but you got me excited now: How about a jury-rigged flare-gun? :)[/sblock]

Jihahna nods at the representative. "500 credits is a very respectable offer. Please, here are my licencing details... Everything is above board, my credit chip and reference numbers. Will there be a formal contract or not? Do you pay after or in advance? A small advance would be appreciated if at all possible, but it is not crucial.

So, Republic work? Hmmm. I've never had the opportunity.... Generally speaking, can you run me through any additional expectations you have. Are we all to be contractors? Are they reliable? Are you aware of their specialties?"

All business now, Jihahna is straight and to the point. Her questions flow quickly and she nods politely with each answer from the representative, taking a mental note of the details to write down for later.

Smiling, Vivian tries to answer the best she can "Out here in the Outer Rim we are not so formal but if you prefer to have a contact I will have one drawn up back out our office. I can give you a 100cr right now but the rest will have to wait until the job is done."

"As for expectations, I would say uphold and follow the laws where you can. This planet is not a formal member of the Republic and many of its laws may not apply but we still try and follow the rules even if some of the players here do not. As for the other reps coming, I don't have anything. I got a vidpak saying that they were hiring some experts to try and resolve the situation, that's all I got."

As the pair talk they started to head towards the exit through the spaceport protective wall, when an aqualish miner (with a Czerka symbol on his right shoulder of his jacket) steps in front of the pair. Pointing at Vivian he says in heavily accented basic "Hey Republic rep you, maybe stay out of others business you should? Why you try involved you with matters that are not yours? Good deal we got going, staying out of it should you. Hear you me?"

Meanwhile on the Morning Song the ship drops out of hyperspace and the captain's voice over thecomlink says "We are less then a day out but I need to get the final coordinates before we make the last jump"
