Hrynnar hadn't said much; he never did on these trips to the Fens, lest his 'sparkling personality' with the customers cut him down to a half share. Better to put your head down, march, kill what needs killing, find the 'x' on the map, and come home. And don't be last. You look lazy when you're last, so Hrynnar wasn't, staying just ahead of the last couple of 'soldiers'.
Still, he couldn't help but chuckle a little bit to hear Lellard complain about coming out here, and wonder why Hrynnar himself wasn't sinking like a stone. "Because I know where to step, you witless old prat..." he muttered at that one.
The kid unsettled him a little bit. Hrynnar liked to know the full roster ahead of time, down to the man, no surprises, no additions, no subtractions. Helped him to be more aware of his role.
When the kid spoke to him, Hrynnar didn't hear half of it, but he got the gist of the conversation. "Forget it, kid. I have."

"Speak for yourself, Jakobi. I plan to run if there are too many of them.""we're among child simpletons and hapless fishermen, geron. 'twould truly be a wonder if we all don't soon adorn the end of a rhelmsman's pike. yes, yes?"
