Hrynnar hadn't said much; he never did on these trips to the Fens, lest his 'sparkling personality' with the customers cut him down to a half share. Better to put your head down, march, kill what needs killing, find the 'x' on the map, and come home. And don't be last. You look lazy when you're last, so Hrynnar wasn't, staying just ahead of the last couple of 'soldiers'.

Still, he couldn't help but chuckle a little bit to hear Lellard complain about coming out here, and wonder why Hrynnar himself wasn't sinking like a stone. "Because I know where to step, you witless old prat..." he muttered at that one.

The kid unsettled him a little bit. Hrynnar liked to know the full roster ahead of time, down to the man, no surprises, no additions, no subtractions. Helped him to be more aware of his role.

When the kid spoke to him, Hrynnar didn't hear half of it, but he got the gist of the conversation. "Forget it, kid. I have."

"we're among child simpletons and hapless fishermen, geron. 'twould truly be a wonder if we all don't soon adorn the end of a rhelmsman's pike. yes, yes?"
"Speak for yourself, Jakobi. I plan to run if there are too many of them."

"Forget it, kid. I have."

Gareth smiles at Hrynnar and, after giving Lellard his food, drops down on one of the few dry patches of land. Tossing up a few crumbs of bread into the tree above him he mumbles. "Goodnight Halvin."

Gareth smiles at the group. "Wake me up when it's my turn to stand guard. Hrynnar it would be my honor to stand watch with you. I've always heard stories about Dwarves ad how they're such good soldiers. I want to learn."
Looking up at Hrynnar with pleading eyes he added a faint "... please?"

"Sure, kid. Here's your first dwarven fighting tip: when standing watch, you have to be very, very, quiet. If you make any noise at all, your enemy can find you.

Remember, watch is a defensive position; the objective is not to go out and kill the enemy, but to prevent them from killing you. If they can't find you, they can't kill you, right? So when you're out there with me, not one. word, lest I be forced to knock you out with the flat of this axe.
"

Gareth gulps. "Ehm ... sure Hrynnar. I know that, I AM a hunter you know? One of the best in the village." Gareth looks proudly at the rest of the group. "I know how to be silent and stay out of sight. And I'm 16, I'm not a kid any more. We're all in this together so let's try to treat everyone with respect. He smiles at everyone. "And now, goodnight all. Hrynnar wake me up when it's our turn will you?"

Gareth turns around and falls asleep.

Dahlmut laughs at Thom's reference to his "experience." Wiping away an imagined tear he sobers slightly, "If it's not a fish, lad, I'm afraid I won't have much ken of what to do. But we'll make it through, I imagine. The Rhelmsman would be quite lukcy to make it this far."

Still, chuckling, he takes a quick inventory of the quickly dwindling food supply. "So, is there any food left in stores, General?" He asks of the reclining Lellard. "Or do we need to form up a hunting party before settling in?"

OOC: Sorry for the long delay, I kind of overslept. Destan, if I'm being to forward about describing the surrounds and whatnot, let me know. I'm definately new to this. As a side note, are the boards being incredibly slow for everyone, or is it just me?

"About this business of being quiet," Dahlmut says. "I'm afraid I might not be very adept at that. This rusty bucket here is sturdy enough to take a few blows, but I haven't done anything to it since I fished it out of the bay and it makes more noise than a seagull caught in a barbed net." To illustrate he straightens his arm slightly and the armor bits squeak and groan against eachother. "I'll do my best, of course, but I think that anything with an ear is going to hear me coming."

Thom Joffson...

Thom looks a bit miffed at Gareth. "I've brought some block and tackle Dahlmut, maybe you and I can catch us some dinner." He opens his pack and takes out a heavy block of water-stained wood with strong, thin roped around it."Shouldn't take too long to catch something."

OOC: Board was running slow for me as well. Does that sometimes.

[Despaxas, and everyone, just so you know, Hrynnar's playing the Charisma score Moradin gave him, in the bleak, war environment familiar to this campaign and the Story Hour alike, so don't take it personally if he's a little grouchy to your PC from time to time, because he will be, given the circumstances.]

"Kid talks more than a peck. That'll change, first taste of battle we get." Hrynnar mutters.

Hrynnar takes off his armor, finds another dry spot to roll out his bedroll, and settles for bed. Before drifting off to sleep, he mentions to the others: "We follow the current watch, right? Come get us when you're done, and we'll do the same to the next."

jakobi duskraven...

jakobi unslings his pack and quits his glowering silence. he sidles up to geron as the shorter man grumblingly heads away from the impromptu encampment. "i'll keep ya company, mouse. i'd like to hear more of the trouble your mate clydass got his silly ass into, anyways." and under his breath he mutters, "and have less of this ass lellard and his orders at any rate."

OOC: okay, first minor mix-up. i've highlighted above that it was jakobi's intention that he was heading off with geron to take the first watch when he uttered the disparaging remarks about simpletons and fishermen [and lellard, for that matter]. they were meant for geron's ears alone. jakobi's a jerk sometimes... but not that much of one! however, no one seems to have taken it too poorly, so no harm, no foul. yes, yes?
