D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Infiltrators)

"HA!" shouted Udit, and he kicked the head, hard, resulting in an alarming cracking sound.

"Thank you, oh most, uh, noble Beetle, for protecting your most, uh, good servant. I offer to you, this, uh, demon-head, I think, as a sacrifice. All praise to the Beetle of Mislaid memories. Now GRANT ME ALL THE, uh, EYXPEE*!"

(*eyxpee, a lamarakhi term for power. It's only fair, he killed the monster by himself! ;) )

He then nodded sharply at Zander - good move that covering, and added to the mages "So, uh, thanks for all the advice on the runes, I think it worked". Turning back to Zander he then said "Uh, thanks. I have good boots"

Later, Udit whistled at the jade statue. "Damn. That's nice work. Probably worth a pretty penny too!" He then looked at the corridor to the east and his mouth dropped open. "Ok... that's gotta be a trap..."

"You know we could just, uh, take this jade statue. Plenty of coin there. Leave this nonsense behind. No? Oh well..."

Udit gave the dirt hole an evil look. "huh. Well, uh, the thing to do is to sneak up in there... but I need light. Dang it. Ok well I'm going to tie a a rope to me and you yank me back if there is any trouble"

Udit handed the rope to Kurzon and walked slowly to the entrance of the dark hole, lantern in hand. He looked, listened, smelled, *felt* ahead, extending his senses trying to see if there was any threats...

perception check near dirt passage: 1D20+7 = [8]+7 = 15

(and Passive perception is 17)... anything?

Drako almost bit on Udit’s offer to take the Jade statue and call it a day, but there was still so much to study here too much to be learned.

Drako moved besides Kurzon.

OOC:
Drako will help Kurzon if any checks are needed to pull Udit back.

The hole led up a twisting tunnel and smelled distinctly of troglodyte. Based on the many scribbled maps, it was likely that the tunnel led toward the trog caves. On top of that, Udit noticed a well-disguised dirt-covered animal skin was just barely visible under some strewn dirt - very likely covering a pit trap.

The jade statue would be a vast amount of work to get out of the vault, as it was very large. Perhaps just a piece?

Udit scrambled back

"This leads to the troglodyte lair based on the smell - and there are pit traps on the way too. So, uh, unless we want to mess with them for some reason... maybe they have the last Idol? No, wait, isn't it supposed to be in the treasure vault or something"

Udit closed his eyes, trying to refocus. "Right. Uh, so, dragons are vain, so it might try to animate that jade statue, so, uh, watch it. Now, let me inspect the entrace to this treasure vault..."

Udit crept carefully forward, seeking the traps his pessimistic little heart knew where there.

Perception check at entrance of treasure vault, passive is 17: 1D20+7 = [6]+7 = 13

Torbin stepped into the room with the rest, though he stayed close to the entrance to the Alchemists lab. He kept an arrow knocked and ready to go.

Squirrels are evil!

As Udit crept over to the globe-lit archway leading to the room full of treasures, he noticed that the Jade Dragon's eye-holes were pointed directly at him. He could imagine poisoned darts or ray-beams or some other effect coming from them. Glancing around, he could not discern a trigger mechanism. Then again, he thought, it could be some sort of magical field - not his area of expertise. He moved cautiously.

OOC: Want to head in, or wait for someone else to try something?

Udit felt the hairs on the back of his neck rise, and looked behind him - right into the eyes of the jade statue.

"Uh... I don't like where this statue is pointed - look at the eyes. I can't seem to find the triggering mechanism, but it's my, uh, profeshunal opinion, that it may be part of some kind of trap. Stand back - and if any of you can detect magic, please take a peak at the statue and the archway"

Knowing it probably wouldn't work but it was a start, Udit conjured a crude image of himself in the archway. (OOC assuming that didn't work), he then took out his bedroll and made a bundle with it of heavy stuff - crowbars, shovels, ball bearings, rations, silverware (.... where did that come from) and other nick nacks. Once he felt he had a good heft - heavier than a halfling ... how does he carry all this stuff? - he tied a rope to id and threw it at the archway opening, hunting for pressure pads, trip wires and the like. Of course, he made sure that he wasn't between the statue and the probable target!

(OOC: no idea what I should roll here but he'll give it a few tries)

Sure enough, as Udit-object flew through the archway, the eyes of the dragon statue literally shot darts into the bedroll before it even hit the ground.

OOC: I will say more based on any Int Checks made by observers.
