Torbin believes that the trigger has something to do with the light of the glowing orbs being blocked by the object moving through the archway, and Drako is certain that the darts are magically conjured by the statue (and therefor theoretically unlimited in ammunition).

You'd have to be invisible (or something similar) to be safe from triggering the trap.

OOC: INT not my stat, [roll0]

"Could we blind the thing, maybe?" Zander asked after watching the bedroll get shredded. "Or turn the statue around, to face another way."

Drako rubbed his tongue along the inside of his cheek, “We may have to do something of that nature.” Zander Drako said vacantly.

“It’s darts seem to be conjured by the statue so it’s not like we can keep throwing things in its way until it runs out. Perhaps we can destroy the eyes?”

Zander's suggestion had some possible merit, but at the same time seemed possibly foolish: the jade statue probably weighed no small number of tonnes.

Worse, the terracotta army stood just behind the statue.

It was hard to imagine the army as anything other than sinister, in spite of the passive and stoic stance of the inanimate soldiers.

"Maybe if we throw blankets over the orbs? If nothing else it might destroy it's own trigger?"

Torbin seemed unsure of himself, but spoke up anyways. In the meantime he kept a sharp lookout and an arrow strung.

Squirrels are evil!

Sesto had been following along quietly, watching Udit attempts to find the traps. Torbin had been observant but what could be done to stop the jade dragon from firing darts, Sesto asked himself.
Sesto cleared his throat and spoke for the first time since leaving the alchemist gnome. I thought we maybe could re-direct the light from the orb with this mirror of mine, he said holding up a steel mirror, but I think we need at least two for that to work. The trap activates when the light is blocked.
Turning to Torbin, Sesto said; Not a bad idea to cover the orb. The traps may shoot darts constantly and we will see where they aim. We can maybe walk or crawl past the spot where the darts hit. We can use the blanket from my bedroll. He paused for a second and then added; Let's tie a rope to the blanket so that we can remove it from the orb if we find it necessary. Sesto looked expectantly at Torbin, Drako and Udit.
Then he sighed and muttered; If all else fails, we could just knock the dragon head off with a few blows. Sesto swung his mace lightly. If I remember correctly, jade is very hard but also quite brittle.

OOC: I finally have some time to participate again. Sorry for my absence.
The last suggestion would only work if the head was at a safe distance from the terracotta army.
Btw, Sesto can cast Light on something so we can see, if it is dark.
Also, Sesto can cast Mending. Would that work if cast on the dragon eyes? Don't think so... but doesn't hurt to ask.

It's okay, you're clearly not the only one! (I probably should have pushed this game to the end earlier, before so many people started to drift. We've lost a lot of momentum.) But that's fine we'll get it done.

The last suggestion )breaking the dragon head) would only work if the head was at a safe distance from the terracotta army.

Could work. It's hard to say if the army would be triggered (assuming it even IS animate, but it's a good bet!)

There are other glow-orbs in these rooms.

Nope. You'd have to have the pieces of jade that were drilled out of the eyes to reattach. (IMO on how the spell works). It doesn't just "regrow" missing jade, anyway. (Nor would that necessarily disrupt the conjuration magic - the whole eye thing might just be artistic flair on the part of the trap-builder.)

"If my brother were here," Auraia said, "he could just blind the thing in darkness. I can't do that. But I can teleport through it. I can't teleport anyone else, though."
