Kurzon leads the way back to the Kayaks, everyone taking the same seats as before (as people do).

Udit and Kurzon paddle toward the dug-out channel where Udit saw the nutshells, Drako and Auraia holding torches.
There is no sign of the nutshells, but none was expected (the water constantly flowing, even in the larger lake); The nutshells likely passed during the fight with the Decapus.

The channel is narrow and shallow, with the muddy sediment of the area thick on both sides, and it continues to narrow as you move along, until the paddles must be dipped directly down the sides of the kayaks.

Then the light of the torches reveal a brick-and-mortar wall, where the water pours out of a drain-tunnel, flowing toward you. It is low enough that you could climb out of the kayak and into it, and tall enough that you could do it stooped, one foot on either side of the flowing water, which; not crawling in the water. (At any rate, the water does not seem too filthy.

Pulling the lead Kayak up sideways to it (carefully making sure the water doesn't cascade into the kayak), Drako and Kurzon can see the shadow of a steel grate on the water, illuminated from above, about twenty feet in. The brick tunnel continues to the left and right of the grate, in a "T" shaped junction.

GM: Anyone want to climb in?

Udit wispers harshly after Draco:

"Let me take a look, there might be traps. I have a good eye for those sorts of things. And good boots too"

Pained by the blank look his companions gave him, Udit added "haven't you heard of cal-trops?"

[OOC: is the grate *above* (blocking access to an upper floor) or in front (blocking access to move deeper into the tunnel)? ]

Udit carefully looks around for traps

Perception for traps in the tunnel with the grate: 1D20+3 = [13]+3 = 16

[OOC: I'm going to do a few rolls here that are "conditional" to speed things along]

Udit attempts to disarm the hypothetical trap (unless it's clearly magical - he leaves that for others!)

[OOC: aaaaaand coyote code conked out... will post later :( ... this *may* be the roll? ] something isn't right

"Be my guest." Drako says as he drops softly back into the kayak, glad to be out of harms way for a moment. Ready to follow Udit into the tunnel if needed.

Location: Temple Sewer, 1 hour 15 minutes to Nightfall

Udit climbs in to the brick water tunnel, checking carefully for traps. Satisfied that there are none, Udit makes his way to the T-junction. To the right, the tunnel goes ten feet, and then up, water cascading down, impassable, from some unknown source (presumably originating with the river). To the left, the tunnel continues gradually downward, the water flowing along beyond the torchlight.

Ten feet above him, through a rusty steel grate, Udit can see the constant light of oil lanterns, and he can hear voices:

"Come, gentlemen, you can spare a fellow a bit of that lizard, can you not?" says a voice in an unusual accent.

"It's chicken. Listen to this guy, Ghus, he don't even know what a chicken is, does he?" says another voice, gruff and slow.

"I'm sure it tastes just like lizard, and a man in my position can't be choosy."

"Tha's right, pointy-ears." says a third voice, Ghus perhaps?, "You get nothin' unless we say so."

"You're very powerful, I am sure." says the first voice, disingenuously.

"Shaddup, all of you!" shouts a fourth voice, angrily. "I can't hear myself think. Let me take my turn in piece."

After a moment of grumbling, there is only the soft voices of a few men playing a time-wasting gambling game.

Udit scurries back to report, and describes the situation above.

"One of them is probably an elf or somethin. I can't tell if he's a prisoner, or just an underling in this operation who's not a bit sad about his position. I'm going to look around a touch more. Stay put and be quiet"

Udit lights a candle (he wants a weak light source so it's not spotted through the grate)

OOC: It's not very clear to me if the tunnel to the left is passable or not, the following is if it is.

Udit then carefully walks down it for maybe 30 feet to get a better idea what is beyond it, using his candle to see. He will then report.
