D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (River Gang)

"Oh yes, I was speaking of your 'sun'. You would know more of that than I. There is a pillar near the lake dedicated to it." he explained, "Or at least that is what I was told it was for. I can take you to it."

Knowing full well that his disdain for the sun was the least of everyone's concerns, Stryke continued to answer your questions. While doing so, he loaded his crossbow and moved to the large staircase. He peered up it, seemed satisfied that no-one was coming, and moved back toward the portcullis.

"Yes, it was unfortunate that the Dragon seemed able to sense our attempt to disable the ward. I threw the idol off of a ledge and into the lower-part of the lake. I have since learned that that part of the lake has a terrible occupant - a many-headed serpent. There were other prisoners here when I arrived, and after, and all but myself have either succumbed to torture, or were thrown off that same ledge, and consumed by that beast. Or so I have heard from the guards, some of which had no reason in this case to lie."

He moved into the storage room and began to rummage through the boxes and crates.

Drako watched the exchange, he didn’t trust drow and he was acting strangely, but then again he had been held captive for a while, perhaps it had warped his mind.

Kurzon had beaten him to the question about Lord Silakul so Drako waited silently for an answer.

OOC: I assume Kurzon is asking the prisoner-guard.

"Silakul is the ruler of this t-temple. A holy figure? The priests of the temple t-treat him with g-great respect. I don't follow him, I follow Bardaby. The Beast took him as a client. Us beast-boys call all our clients "Lord". I don't know if he really is one."

"I doubt that." scoffs Stryke, "What he is is a cult-leader, using his lies and his magic to manipulate the dull-witted."

Stryke finds some rations, rope, and a blanket, amongst the many things in the store-room. He shoves them in a sack after dumping its contents on the floor.

Udit rubbed his stubbly chin. When the drow mentioned the figure in the lake, he briefly glanced at the sisters... how fortunate. He then turned his attention to the prisoner:

"... and who is this Bardaby fellow"?

(OOC: will not be able to post much Wednesday until late in the day)

The guard-prisoner explains that Bardaby, known as the Beast, is a mercenary Captain hired by Silakul (using dragon-treasure) to bolster the number of men at the temple. Opinions of these "Beast-Boys" varies on the subject of the Dragon, ranging between terrified awe of the Dragon Cultists to sceptical disdain. Some of them don't even believe that there is a Dragon at all, far or less a Dracolich. What's clear from speaking to him is that the cultists and the mercenaries have a professional, if strained, relationship, held together by the force of will of their respective leaders.

Both the Drow and the guard agree that the large staircase leads to the area where the most cultists and mercenaries can be found, and the smaller staircase in the back of the store-room leads to a grand hall outside the innermost Vault. The innermost Vault is considered to be the location of the Diamond Staff, but may not be accessible without the Bhaalite Idols (Stryke, if he's telling the truth, seems to only know that one exists, thinks it failed to work, and threw it in the lake, off of a ledge, which he claims is off of the grand hall. He claims he saw the dragon in that hall, however, and that Drow died fighting it (leading to his capture).

Having grabbed enough equipment to last him, Stryke plans to go out the way you came in, through the "sewer" and out into the lake-area, where he claims he will climb a chimney over some sort of magical pillar dedicated to the sun, and return to his homeland in failure (a failure he can blame on the leader of his expedition, who he says got eaten by the Dracolich). If no one stops him, Stryke will jump down the grate-hole and leave.

GM: What do you want to do?

Udit will ask Striker to kindly draw a map on the floor with this handy piece of chalk, and will give him another day's worth of rations for his journey.

"Thank you for your time," Kurzon says to his prisoner before he locks him in the cell. "I would suggest a career change for you my son. It is never too late to change your path. If your friends let you out and you come against us again; you will die. One chance only."

Drako watched as Striker packed up to leave before Udit stopped him. It sounded like they were going to have to go back into the water. You should have went with the other party, at least you wouldn’t be getting as wet, the voice inside his head mocked him.

Turning to the guard Drako smiled, “I’d say I hope your friends find you and release you soon, but to be honest, for our sake it’s probably best if you lose a few pounds waiting for them.”

Turning back to the others, “So to the lake to get the Idol?”
