D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (River Gang)

"Aye, a trap to be sprung." Kurzon's feral grin was quite a toothy reminder of his mixed ancestry. The prospect of battle still fired his blood no matter how diluted his orcish blood.

About an hour passes, with Drako, Kurzon, and Udit taking turns keeping an eye out through the portcullis and listening through the door at the top of the stairs. The prisoner stays mum, and Aquaria and Auraia have a nap, shorter than they would have liked.

The wait is eventually interrupted by a little bat fluttering down the hall and around the store-room. (Drako spots it.) Not long after, there is the unmistakable sound and frustration of a group of people negotiating a wagon down the wide, shallow, flight of stairs at the other end of the prison. The stairs were designed for this maneuver, but it's still a bit difficult.

GM: We have our first group cross-over! Feel free to take the effects of a short-rest (post it here) and then join us in the old Intro thread (I will send invites - I am going to use that thread for any time there are multi-group interactions) for the next bit!

OOC: Technically, you only need to sleep what, 6 hours of a 8 hour long rest? The rest can be "Light Activity", so as long as we don't DO anything, this could still be a long rest...

OOC: Technically, you only need to sleep six hours a day and you can only take 1 long rest. They don't have to have anything to do with each other. But there are a lot of fiddly bits when it comes to resting. I'm pretty laid-back about it. They can be attempting a long rest here. As long as you don't go fight the hydra in the next 7 hours, you should get your rest.

Chapter Two: Going Deeper

Time: Early Morning

Group; The NEW River Gang

GM: Just so everyone knows, this group consists of:
tglassy playing the Genasi Mystic sisters Auraia and Aquaria
Ancalagon playing the Rogue, Udit
River Song playing the Paladin, Kurzon
gargoyleking playing the Warlock, Mord
Prickly Pear playing the Barbarian, SnorLoska
and the NPC ex-Beast Boy Enforcer (ex-prisoner), Dunmire

...and a Lizardman outcast named Guldred.

Having heard Lorenn's report regarding the meeting (observed by Lorenn's bat-familiar) between Cultist big-wigs in the Great Hall, just before the bladedancer had been teleported away, Dunmire says "The bald guy must be Silakul. He's the leader of the cult, and has the Dragon's ear. His bodyguard is some kind of monstrous thing made from stitched-together bodies. It's terrifying. The guy he was talking to sounds like Bardaby, the Beast. He's in charge of all the mercenaries, guards, and basic security. They must be looking for you... uh, us. It won't be long before they notice the Hydra is dead. I'm surprised those guys guarding Silakul's rooms - that's where the doors closest to the Hydra's ledge go - didn't hear us fighting the Hydra. Actually, they must have heard it roaring. Probably too scared to go look. I'm sure they'd use the excuse that they couldn't leave their post. Mostly all you can hear from up there is the waterfalls, anyway. It's a good thing the Dragon doesn't like to do stuff for himself - they treat him like a king - otherwise, we'd probably be dead already. I don't know how long we can hang out here before they figure out that this is where you've been all this time."

OOC: (If you missed it or want reminding)
[Sblock=What Eko Saw]
Eko crawls around the support beam. Slow enough that the door-guards couldn't possibly notice him, but he gets to a better place to see:

Some eighty-odd feet away, a tall bald human in robes is standing next to an even taller, massive humanoid. The bald man is lecturing a shorter, but powerfully-built bearded man in well-worn armour. Several others stand around listening, some of them armoured and some in robes. Beyond them is another set of doors.

Eko notices that once past the nearest guards, the ceiling raises to a height of fifty-feet, vaulted with cross-beams that provide excellent cover for a flying bat.

Eko flutters from beam-to-beam, easily avoiding the guards who do not look up. As the room widens, a short wide hall reveals another set of doors; the largest of them all. These are cast iron, with the skull of Bhaal having one eye on each. A sense of unease wafts from that direction, and the bat flies on.

Further into the hall, on the same wall as the skull-door, just beyond the talking humans, an enormous stage-like alcove stands fifteen feet off the floor. It is covered in many thousands of coins, haphazardly scattered. Sitting amongst the coins, it's eyes glowing green, is the blackened skeleton of a Dragon.

It lifts its head, spilling coins off the platform and appears to communicate (telepathically) with the bald man, who bows his head. Two of the other humans rush to gather the coins and throw them back up onto the platform.

Udit looks a bit wistfully at the other vanishing. He then turns to the remaining group

"uh, so uh... Mord and uh, Snore-Loska is it? uh, anyway, welcome aboard the river gang."

Udit turns and listen intently to Dunmire's story, nodding several times and rubbing his chin

"So, uh, I guess welcome to you too Dunmire, good to know, good to know. uh... we probably should change position here... doesn't sound like we want to stay there."

OOC: Are we still at the hydra's lair or did we move back to the cove?

Udit continues

"So, uh, Dunmire, what can you tell us about this dragon? Or those drow that were here earlier?"

OOC: You moved back to the campsite, which is in the upper lake, just past the waterfall you came in from.)

"I've only ever caught just a glance at the Dragon. That was enough for me. I never saw the Drow, but I knew we had some prisoner. I heard they stole some of the dragon's horde. Crazy Drow... uh, though I guess that's what you're here for too, hey?" Dunmire shrugged, he'd expected to die a few times already today, and here he was. Maybe his luck would continue.

Mord replies to Udit with thinly veiled sarcasm before moving on tobthe matter at hand. "Thank you... Yes, we should definitely move on once we've sufficiently recouped. What options are open to us at this point?"

He considers Dunmire for a moment and then smiles slightly as a thought comes to him. After a moment his shape melts away and in his place stands their other, former, captive.

"Perhaps our prisoners could... Escape..."

Squirrels are evil!

Udit whistled, impressed.

"Oh! We definitely could use that to set up an ambush, I like it! But... uh.... what about the lizard man and his, uh, warfork? We should decide about that...

As far as moving... uh, maybe we could move to the pillar of the Sun area. It's a bit further away and on the way to the lizard man's area "
