D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (River Gang)

SnorLoska just grunts st Udit but he agrees and says: yeah, let's move on. We might find something interesting there. At least we should find some rest!

The New River Gang work their way around the left side of the lake, past the cove, with it's creepy sun-less plants growing just under the water, and the Bhaalite Obelisk in the corner. They carefully climb up the steep shore, as it raises further out of the lake, the lizardman, Guldred folllowing along behind. They find a cavern, some thirty feet above the lower lake. A beam of early-morning light finds it's way through a crack in the ceiling to shine on a huge fallen pillar of an almost-yellow marble, lying on the ground.

The light shines on ancient-looking elven runes carved beautifully into the pillar's surface, and they appear to softly glow. Everyone can feel a subtle vibration in the air, like music you can't quite hear. The genasi sisters can barely stand it, as they hear many voices speaking at once in an old elvish dialect; so many voices it is very difficult to hear what any one of them is saying.

On the ground in front of the pillar, there is recent-looking finger-writing in the dust. It is in Drow, but an attempt was made by the writer to add elvish swirls to the characters, to make it easier for someone who reads elvish to make out the now-distant relationship between the two languages.

The chimney that the light is coming from would be easy enough to climb.

GM: Anyone who reads elvish can read the Drow-vish with a dc12 Int check.
Anyone can tell something of the obelisk with a dc15 Int (History) check.

Mord looks slightly bored but figures some may want to stop and study the significance of this find. He slips into the shadow, while maintaining his new disguise and creeps ahead to scope out the rest of the chamber for exits and possible loot. In the meantime he does offer up a guidance spell for whoever seems most likely to be able to discern anything from the obelisk itself.

Squirrels are evil!

Udit says flatly

"well, I don't speak Elvarian..."

He rubbed his chin... wasn't there some old story they used to tell on the boat on the summer solstice about a sun-lit elven stone? The Lamarakhi water clans had dealings with elves over the years, and the elven stories told by their elven passengers would be remembered and re-told...

Maybe Udit remembers a story about this thing? : 1D20 = [17] = 17

"Uh, guys, guys, I've heard about this!"

OOC: of course, the GM will have to tell us about what Udit remembers

The Elves of Uvaren, or so the story went, could store information in light. A silly tale. Whoever heard of using light to keep information? This thing is clearly broken, anyhow. Strange hole in the ceiling, though. As if Blackpeak has tried to swallow the pillar, but can't quite get it's mouth to close.

SnorLoska, who can barely read common, walks up to the obelisk and kicks it hard. Stupid elvish writing!!! Elves know nothing. A bunch tight up idiots is what they are!
He sits down on the stone and starts tending his wounds.

When SnorLoska kicks the broken pillar, his head jerks back, his eyes glow with a light of their own. The runes covering the pillar flash a bright light and SnorLoska staggers back.

His head is filled with visions of a thousand ancient Elves of Uvaren: their hopes (that they will live a good life), dreams (for the future of their loved ones), worries (that their warriors will not hold back the devil invasion), knowledge (bow-making, wine-making, magical talents). He lives many lives, all at once, and all in an instant.

GM: SnorLoska must roll a dc12 Wisdom Saving Throw. On a success, you gain the Magic Initiate Feat and Advantage on Wisdom Saving Throws for the rest of this adventure. On a failure you take [roll0] psychic damage as your brain can't take the strain. Good Luck!

Visions fills SnorLoska's head. It feels like nightmare after nightmare and SnorLoska can't cope. He bangs his head repeatedly with clenched fists and yells; GET THEM OUT... GET THEM OUT!!!
After a few moments he slumps to his knees and falls forward. He lies still and then rolls over and open his eyes. That was horrible! SnorLoska sits up and shakes his head to get the lingering visions out of his head.

OOC: Wis save to avoid getting brain fried: 1D20+1 = [6]+1 = 7 Stupid time to fail a saving throw! Magic Initiate would have been soo cool to have.
HP: 1/55, after half-orc relentless endurance

Magic Initiate would have been soo cool to have.

OOC: It sure would have been. Hit Points would have been nice to have too....

Aquaria is the first to notice, but everyone else quickly catches on. The immediate sound of running water suddenly dulls. (It can still be heard from further away in both directions.) It becomes quickly clear that the rapids between the cove and the lower lake have stopped running. The water of the lower lake begins to slowly lower (ooc: too slowly for our purposes here, but it's obvious that it's doing it) and there is a sudden chill in the air, a low rumbling growl, and a rotten-eggs smell in the air.
