Ideas for a new character

the druidic avenger does sound pretty awesome. although the combo bard/barbarian looks pretty sweet too
Especially if you make him a Dwarf, and swat your DM if he makes you suffer core rules for "favoured classes". It's all malarkey, I tells ya.

Well, I would argue that very few dwarves would be bards in a norse game, but a half-elf or human would make a decent one.

Of course, it all depends if there are otehr races availiable and/or what they are :)

cheers,

P.S. Did you check out that Druid varient of mine above, SorvahrSpahr?

Check out the Tome of Battle classes. They are good melee combatants with funky special abilities. They can also be used quite easily to bring out the oriental flavour that you seem to have going on.

I second Tome of Battle as a way to have some awesome melee capabilities. You could also go ranger 1/barbarian 1/warlock X or hexblade 4/barbarian 1/ dragon disciple X. You could eventually be a half-fiend/half-dragon. It's a little cheesy, but you'd have some awesome abilities from your templates.

I would counter-argue by directing you to the Skald and the Dwarven Chanter as presented in the AD&D2 Complete Bard's Handbook... with some tweaking, I would think a Dwarven warrior who is well-versed in his tribal lore and chanting/singing war songs that boost the morale and abilities of his peers on the battlefield... and keep the magics to a non-flashy "boost" type and call it "Runes"... and I'd say you got a Dwarven "Bard". :)

I would disagree - in many cultural traditions spells are sung Finnish and Scandanavian among them. So if you are a caster (of ANY type) Bard levels as part of the character make more sense than most other classes. It want make you an OPTIMAL caster but the idea of being able to inspire courage in others again - is very Nordic, and IMO dwarvish as well.

I'll probably go with the human bard/barbarian for the "Viking"

about the half-fiend:

I never thought of that combo, half-fiend/half-dragon. although my DM would probably barbacue me if I presented that combo for my character :P
