D&D 5E Ideas for Crunch Rollout

I think releasing flavored crunch would be a good idea, as well. I don't know that I'd want everything tied to a specific setting, but something generic would be great. Way back in 1E days, Kara-Tur wasn't part of the Realms. Heck, Kara-Tur didn't even have a map. It was purely a name for an abstract concept of vaguely Eastern D&D. I'd be more than happy to see that sort of release with either an appendix for the settings that have an equivalent sub-setting or web support for settings.

In some cases, it might make sense to have crunch included in a setting book -- muls and defilers/preservers in Dark Sun, for example. For the most part, I'd rather see things grouped by themes, though.

They already did that, to a small degree, with SCAG. I think it's a fine idea, though I seem to be all but alone in thinking PrCs would the be ideal kind of flavor-locked crunch.

......uh.......

Either best worst joke, or worst best joke.

Mostly just worst.

To speak to the original point, heck yeah on the crunchberry flav-o-rama. D&D, at least 5e D&D, is not generic fantasy role-playing. D&D has setting, character, flavor, and that ought to be reflected in the mechanics.

Equally important, though, is to not only allow but encourage re-fluffing to fit character concepts. And I mean more than just a throw-away sentence or two; give us examples. A basic toolkit for designing races & classes (not as complex as what AD&D or PF, necessarily, but at least some basic guidelines) would go a long way towards helping with that, whether they are explicitly linked to re-fluffing or not.

To torture the original metaphor even further, give us crunch with flavor, but also give us access to the spice rack.
