If WOTC gave us a preview from MM1...?

I hated Mike's Rust Monster... Mostly because it's the one lower level creature that can CRIPPLE a 3E character. If something kills you. Meh. You can be rezzed. But your equipment? Man, that's a low blow... So I take it upon myself to put FEAR into the players by applying templates to the Rust Monster to beef it up. (The Anthropomorphic half-red dragon one is just evil.. especially as a Rogue)

Oh, and I wouldn't count on Mind Flayer being in MM1. If next year is psionics, they should be in MM2. Plus, we were told that some traditional critters for the first book wouldn't be in it from the beginning....

For me, it would be gnolls. Gnolls figure very heavily in my upcoming 4e campaign. I know they're sort of tame compared to dragons, beholders, etc..., but they would be very useful for my campaign.

But I would REALLY like to see a mind flayer.

This is nothing but a guess, but I have a suspicion that the Mind Flayers are going to be in MM2, not MM1.

They've said that they're going to be holding some things back, some important things, to really sell the idea that the the "sequels" are actually core. Beholders and Mind Flayers are the two most iconic D&D monsters, and we're pretty much assured at this point that the Beholder's coming in MM1, so it would make sense for them to delay the mind flayers to MM2, if they're serious about it.

Beholders and Elder Hag's.

If it can be only one, then the beholder only to see how they worked it (and what replaces the disintegrate eye)

The new Rust Monster actually sounds better than the old one. I was never one to be or enjoy playing under an adversarial DM, and the whole "Ha Ha! I screwed you dumb punks over yet again!" playstyle grates on me.

As for some sort of MM1 teaser, I would like to see lycanthropes.
