If WOTC gave us a preview from MM1...?

They could give us an interesting look behind the curtain without giving away too many details by giving us the variations on a tribal monster

e.g. Goblins, showing us minions, standards and elite goblins (shaman?) for instance.

That was my thought. Base it off of something very simple so we can get a good look at the basics then give a few versions. If they gave us kobalds or goblins we could get a melee version, a ranged version and then some sort of leader so we can see different versions of the same critter.

The new Rust Monster actually sounds better than the old one. I was never one to be or enjoy playing under an adversarial DM, and the whole "Ha Ha! I screwed you dumb punks over yet again!" playstyle grates on me.

As for some sort of MM1 teaser, I would like to see lycanthropes.
And it makes sense given that they've explicitly said they're trying to reduce the use of the DM as adversary model.

Hey all! :)

The Ancient Red Dragon would be a good preview.

Personally I want to see Orcus, the Solar and the Tarrasque but without some points of reference first those stats could be meaningless, so leave them for the Manual itself.

I think I would like to see a mid-range devil, to see how creatures with MR, DR, spell-like abilities and special defenses/attacks are handled. Devils and demons are creatures with all of these, and so we'd get a chance to see more details that way (or at least hints of details).

Just My Opinion, Though,
Flynn

Yeah, this is what I'd like to see. The species doesn't matter nearly as much to me.

This is nothing but a guess, but I have a suspicion that the Mind Flayers are going to be in MM2, not MM1.
I wouldn't be surprised, but on the other hand they are saying that you won't need to refer to other books for monster abilities -they will generally (always?) be described in the monster description itself. Therefore there is no particular reason why the psionics rules need to be out for psionic monsters to be published.

That said, I think they will wait for MMII, for thematic reasons if nothing else. But if they do put it in MM1 it will be the proper version -there won't be a separate 'psionic' version in a year.

I'd like to see that too. Since they have said they are making the various kinds of humanoids more distinct, maybe they could show us whichever has changed the most dramatically.
