D&D 4E I'm not gonna do 4E

D&D 3.5 is the best roleplaying game ever created but there are still many issues that need fixing. Too much bookkeeping regarding money and equipment - when you get back from an adventure the game turns into accountancy. Far too many spell, magic item and power effects. The overwhelming superiority of casters at high level. Too much complexity at high level, particularly buffs. For my group, the game stops working beyond level 12. This is a legacy issue from earlier editions which were intended to stop around this point.

Lots of minor issues like overpriced magic items (which MIC fixed), turn undead, LA and so forth.

I'm sure 4E will address some of these issues, that's why I'll be buying it.

cant have used more than 30% of the stuff in my 10 or so 3.5e books yet

wont switch anytime soon. BUT

I never played 2e, it didnt seem to change much from 1e which i had stopped playing

if the 4e from 3.5e jump is as good as the one from 2e then 3e, then i assume yes i wld switch

For me, it's gonna depend on a) level/quality of computer support, and b) how much 3rd party support it will encourage/allow.

4e for me

I will jump in the 4e if they break the sacred cow of magic and create a brand new balanced system.

Otherwise i will stick with 3.5. The 3.5 edition is great, the only thing that bother me in DnD is the magic system. So if 4e is only an adjustement of 3.5, with some minor tweaks i will not be interested.

I'll buy it, even if it *is* crap. Not all of it, mind you, but the core book(s) at least. I tend to buy the core book of any system I come across. I've got about 50 different RPG systems on my shelf that I've never played.

I need more friends. :(

If it's well made I don't see any reason why I wouldn't play it. I highly doubt I'll be an early adopter though. My SO and I already own a slew of 3.5e books and I'd like to get some use out of them before rushing into the "next big thing."

Since I'd buy either a "3.75e"-esque cleanup and revision of 3.5e or a wholesale reworking of the system along the 'encounter-based' lines of Star Wars Saga Edition and ToB:Bot9S, and it's really hard to see WotC doing something other than one of those options with 4e, it's extremely likely that I'll pick it up.

Likely I will play both, though it will probably take a while after release for me to find enough players of 4E to put together a group that gets along well and plays well as a team. If I have a campaign going when 4E is released in 2010 ;) I will not likely switch but rather form a separate group on a separate day that may consist of some of the players in that current 3.5 group. Unlike 2E which I think had huge problems and was not well or consistently supported in its waning years, 3.5 wrks very well and has tons of current and future (OGL) support. It is probably also true that most of what makes 4E different from 3.5 will be readily available as legal upgrades to 3.5 through the OGL should I choose to just revamp parts of my regular game.
