Question!

Okay... I'm in the 3rd IR and I'm wondering - Who would win in a no-holds-barred throw-down fight, Ilsensine (Greater God of the Illithid) or Melkor (Greater God of Shadow, Darkness, and Evil)?

Both of them have recently suffered enormous setbacks - Melkor has had his entire worshipper base decimated, but Ilsensine suffered the same thing 40 years ago. Who is in a better position, cosmic power wise?

A difficult one to call. As Greater Gods there wouldn't be much in it.

Without knowing exact details for each we can only speculate.

If we translate both to 3rd Ed. Deities & Demigods format then we could assume:

Ilsensine: 20 HD + Psionicist 30 + Sorceror 30
Melkor: 20 HD + Cleric 20 + Wizard 20 + Rogue 10 + Fighter 10

Probably 19 Divine Ranks each.

CR (each): 124 ish (45 for game purposes)

Someone might be able to come up with a better combination of 80 total levels for either of the above though!?

Typically evenly matched deities will come down to a straight melee fight in anti-magic. If such is the case Melkor would be the likely winner unless you consider that Psionics still function in Anti-Magic!?

I know PCs in the IR thread have up to about 200+ levels, but they don't have Divine Ranks. Though I know Edena uses Power Levels - but I don't know how they function!?

Actually, Anabstecorian, Melkor has a large, secret following on Toril. And I would give him 10 additional fighter levels, he most commonly appears as a Black Knight. Upper Krust, do you follow The IR Threads?

You know him better than me! :)

Unfortunately I don't really have the time at the moment to follow them, but I did read some of the posts earlier and it seemed lots of fun! :D

I am very familiar with Edenas Oerth Campaign (of which this seems something of an extension!?)...Edena and I have been friends for over a year on these boards; though I guess I haven't dropped him a line lately (my fault really). Next time you post there tell him I said hello! :)

I'll be sure and stop by at some point in the future! ;)

Oh yeah, you should definately check em' out

I've decided to get the Epic Level Handbook just so I can detail my IR character, Anabstercorian, the Liason of Dead Memory. I'm up to 155th level now, and I'm working towards my next major power jump as we speak!

Nice. I am sure it should handle things easy enough. The basic mechanics are very simple.

I take it you saw this character:

One problem with 155th-level characters is justification. Actually getting to 155th-level in 3rd Ed. will require something like eliminating the contents of the forthcoming Deities & Demigods book. Practically impossible given a fair and competant DM.

So a problem for 100+ level characters will be finding a challenge that delivers any XP, Greater Gods and above if we use the parameters in Deities & Demigods. Perhaps some Monsters in the Epic Level Handbook will help although I imagine they concentrate on providing challenges for characters 21-40!? The monsters section of the Immortals Handbook has some powerful foes though (some capable of besting even Greater Gods should the need ever arise).

So while 155th-level is fine for IR 'endeavours' you may want to think about starting lower and building from there for roleplaying an Epic or Divine character.

But I'll be very interested to see what you concoct with the Epic Level Rules!? :D

Hm.... I'm very sorry to say, I'm becoming somewhat less enthusiastic. I understand it has to be done, but I'd really rather have a nice big Immortals Handbook than a four-volume Immortals Collection. :) Plus it means waiting through the publication schedule of four+ books in a row.. :(

Sorry to hear that! :(

You know I'm not going to change things at this stage unless I think its absolutely necessary mate!

Well its only the .pdf version that is being divided up. I still plan for the print version to contain all the relevant sections in one book!

I don't see the change having any bearing on the time of release or content within the Immortals Handbook hardcopy!

IIRC, the justification for that character that it (illithids are sexless, thus genderless) was given all the lore and power of his whole race when all illithids from Toril were exterminated, save him. So, that character is a whole race inside one body.
