Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

UK, This is going to seem like a dumb question, but here goes anyway. What is Alabaster's total ECL, including the Amidah template? A friend of mine is doing a tournament involving him, but we can't get started until we figure out this little problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

U_K's got technical problems. :( So I doubt he can answer right away. It might take a week or two.

I don't know off the top of my head, but it should be the sum of his levels (117) plus the vampire and Amidah template. (+80 total? I don't have access to the bestiary right now)
Now, on an extremely technical level, he has 2 more artifacts than U_K's CR/ECL rules account for. Equipment accounts for 1/3 of a characters effective level, so take whatever his total ECL is and multiply by 7 then divide by 6. (For a net increase of 1/6th power)

As Ltheb noted, Alabaster has 117 levels. The vampire template has a level adjustment of +8, and the Amidah template has a level adjustment of +111. So, that's a grand total of 236.

If you want to also take into account his having six artifacts instead of the normal four (bear in mind that, in the print version of the Bestiary, he only has four swords; one of them just splits into three, so this might not apply if you use that), then multiplying 236 by 7 and dividing the total by 6 comes out to 275.33, rounded down to 275.

It's not more than is currently in the book; most likely they're just counting differently. If you take, for example, the five example creatures for the Dire template (dire tyrannosaurus, behemoth bear, macrobe preying mantis, Airavata, and Garm), and count the other monsters, that's a little over forty right there - counting the template and the example creature as two monsters is a standard practice in press releases for monster books, to make them look more impressive.

Mongoose Publishing has finally gotten their new printing facility up and running, and mentions the IH Bestiary as one of the books now being printed! Joy!

Their page for the book says it has a release date of May 21st, this year.

Yes, I was hoping to break the good news to you all, except for the timely demise of my computer.

Shocked me how quickly Mongoose new print setup lets them go to print.

I'll be sure and update the website tomorrow with all the details.

Thanks to the guys who filled in while I was away, much appreciated.

According to my (up to date) version of the Bestiary he is ECL 245.

Note that although he did have six artifacts, the actually power of the artifacts was balanced against four items (and always was - even in the early pdf versions).

Have fun with the tourney! :D

From the details on Mongoose's website.
More than is currently in the book. I wonder what new monsters will be included?

There are 42 monsters in the bestiary (although that does count the five under the dire (and affiliated templates).

There are 67 monster stat blocks counting all the different golem and elemental variants.

By the way guys, Mongoose are needing some last minute changes (dates updated to 2007 and so forth, nothing major). However, that does give me the last minute opportunity to make some changes, so is there any errata or things you really wanted to see in the Epic Bestiary Volume One? If so, you have about 24 hours to let me know.

Exactly, although I would never count the template and sample creature as two, only one. But in the case of the dire template there are actually six templates and five sample monsters in that one entry.

No changes, but with your working knowledge of ascension in it's final form, do any of the monsters need slight readjustment with their CRs/LAs?
That, and did you come up with an accurate CR for the Neutronium Golem? I remember something about it's real CR being between 600 and 1000. This does kindof take the fun out if the neutronium golem though, as the following 'discussion' can't take place:[sblock]Nappa: "Hey, Vegeta, what does the Bestiary say about this things' challenge rating?"
Vegeta: "Its over 9000!"
Nappa: "What! 9000!?!"[/sblock]
