Immortals Handbook - Grimoire (Artifacts, Epic Magic discussion)

Speaking of Japan, how about Amanonuhoko? Wikipedia describes it as a jeweled halbred, but I'd originally heard of it as a coral sword.

Or is that part of the regalia you mentioned already?

Assuming U_K is referring to the Three Sacred Treasures, then no, the sword in that set is Kusanagi.

I have the Ark and the Holy Grail, I suppose I could add the Lance of Longinus.

Nice. I think Noah's Ark would be cool too, though. I sort of see that as being the iconic world-ship, able to sail through multiverses and seed species from one into another (perhaps as a last-ditch effort when one multiverse is dying, similar to the Omega Weapon).

No (as Alzrius mentioned), but now that you spoke of it I will add it in. ;)

I still need a Major (and possibly also Moderate) Egyptian Artifact.

I also need a Persian and Finnish Moderate Artifact.

Other than that I think I have the Mythology artifacts decided, though not yet all the Dimensional and new (ie. those created by me) artifacts.

What I have noted is that most Major Artifacts are not weapons, in fact only those which are part of a Regalia are ever in the major artifacts column.

Another point of note are how many items have twins/opposites (although I have taken a few liberties herein):

Weapons from Myth:

Mjolnir, Levantine
Kusanagi, Amenonuhoko
Spear of the Sun, Sword of the Moon
Lance of Longinus, Joyeuse

Weapons from Fiction:

Stormbringer, Mournblade
Courflamme (itself two blades combined)

Howdy Alzrius dude! ;)

Not sure about Noah's Ark to be honest.

I already have the Holy Grail, Lance of Longinus and Ark of the Covenant pencilled in with the sword Joyeuse on the 'maybe' pile. But thanks for the suggestion nonetheless. :)

I like the idea of more Japanese artifacts, but unless there's a bunch of tales about Amenonuboko (the "h" is changed to a "b" due to combining it with the rest of the words in the name, which is a fairly common grammatical alteration in Japanese) that I don't know about, it doesn't have much history to draw on. For that matter, it's a spear, not a sword.

If you have three levels of artifacts, of which Major is the second category, it shouldn't be too hard to find various mythological weapons to fill the void, though. Tales of magic swords are everywhere.

Hey guys! :)

Egyptian Ideas -
Solar Disc & Eye of Horus

I was thinking the Eye of Ra/Horus myself, but there isn't really much to go on it.

Halberd. :p

I quite like it, there is a little bit of a backstory and a number of potential powers I can play around with.

1. Minor ~ used by mortals
2. Moderate ~ used by immortals, or mortal collectives
3. Major ~ used by sidereals, or immortal collectives (e.g. Pantheons)

it shouldn't be too hard to find various mythological weapons to fill the void, though. Tales of magic swords are everywhere.

Magic swords are two-a-penny, but we are talking MAGIC swords here. Immortal level artifacts. They are not so common.

Hey there WarDragon! :)

What about Eternals' artifacts? Where do they fit?

Well, you could say that Eternal artrifacts may be non-sentient (or semi-sentient) Time Lords.

I'll be sure and include a few examples in the Grimoire.

I imagine Xiphoid, mentioned as an adventure idea in Alabaster's entry, would be an obvious example of this. That said, if all Time Lords are incarnate universes, that'd make these artifacts creatures, not items (to say nothing of having a universe inside them); so I'd really like to see how that works!

Can a magic item evolve naturally?

Is an intelligent magic item 'alive'?

There are some interesting questions to ponder on the matter.
