Impossible to kill a spectra?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: it still doesn?t make sense

Blind fight isn't a supernatural ability.

For blind-fight to work, you have to have some alternate means of sensing your opponent. If you are inside the floor, you can't hear, feel, or smell their presence.

Not necessarily. Blind-fight says "You know how to fight in melee wihtout being able to see your foes".

It might be training in techniques that allow a greater chance of hitting someone who you can't see, as opposed to relying on hearing or smell - using broad sweeping horizontal strokes instead of vertical ones, for example. Nowhere in the feat description does it say a Blindfighter is hampered by a Silence spell.

Did I say it would be hampered by a silence spell?

I simply don't interpret it the way you do. I feel that my interpretation is more in line with the spirit of the feat, but if you want to ignore that, I'm good with calling it a house rule.

Happy?

When the party are attacked by it, they can ready actions to strike it as it attacks them... at the point where its arm extends to attack someone the magic missiles, turning attempts, magic weapons swing etc.

It can get a lot of extra cover, sure, but it is not immune to their attack (unless you give it spring attack, of course...)

Spring Attack won't save it from Readied Actions.

But TR is complaining that it can use Blind-Fight and Listen to level drain the soles of their feet without extending more than the tips of its fingers through the floor, where it still has full cover because the character's boots get in the way.

The rest of us think that's impossible, but it's his argument against readied actions.

It has a descent listen check +13 so pinpointing where the noisy full plate wearing fighters is should be no problem.

I have to ask, have you looked at the Listen check DC's for locating an invisible object? You have to beat the target's Move Silently check by 20 in order to do it. +13 is not enough to make that "no problem," even against someone in full plate (-6 armor check penalty).

That's even aside from the fact that it explicitly says that the Listen DC is +15 for someone on the other side of a stone wall, which I don't expect will convince you of anything. But as far as I can see, you should be looking at Listen check DC's in the range of 39 to even try this stunt.

Try this: a Fireshield spell, protection from negative energy attacks, and plenty of healing potions.

I had a Necromancer/Loremaster get attacked by a vampiric gibbering mouther (in Nightfang Spire); ONE negative level short of death, my fireshield finally obliterated it. 1d6+13 damage, per connecting swing, is nothing to laugh at. 'specially since it was a warm shield, and the damage was [fire]-based.

IDHTBRIFOMATM but I seem to recall reading that in order to attack, excepting special circumstances like arrow slits, you could take at most 50% (+4 AC) cover; and that for melee attacks your opponents have the same cover against you as you do against them.

I can see excepting spectres from the second clause, as their ars pass right through the stone, but I would only allow 50% cover if the spectre were dealing a melee attack.
