Improved haste

hong

WotC's bitch
A pumped-up version of the 3.5E haste.

Transmutation
Level: Brd 7, Sor/Wiz 7
Targets: 1 creature/2 levels, no tw of which can be more than 30' apart

As haste, except as noted above, plus the affected creatures can make one extra attack with the standard attack action. If they have the ability to use spells or spell-like abilities, they can cast one additional quickened spell or spell-like ability each round.

Too good? Not good enough? A must-have?

How's this spell work?

Does this give you 2 extra attacks at full BAB?

As for the spells... do you mean that Improved Haste functions as the Epic feat Multispell (+1 to limit of Quickened spells per round), or gives a "free" Quicken effect to a spell or spell-like ability? In the first case, Sorcerors won't touch it; in the second... hmmm.

Brd 7 seems a bit of a stretch...:D

Adding multiple extra attacks (above and beyond normal capacity for damage) is probably a bit much.

If what you're going for is a suped-up haste, I'd recommend something that affects more people, or possibly kicks up the bonuses associated with haste a bit.

If what you want to do is cast more spells in a round than one (or two quickened). I'd suggest something more like this:

Brd 5, Wiz/Sor 6
T: personal
D: 1 rd/4 lvls
ST/SR: n/a
V,S,M (with 500 gp - 1000 gp component item)

Allows you to have an additional standard action (including on the round this spell is cast), that may be used only for purposes of casting a spell or using a spell like ability. The spell or spell-like ability used must be a standard action or free action to activate. The effects of this spell stack with the effects of the "haste" spell.

Haste, Greater
Transmutation
Level: Brd 6, Sor/Wiz 8 [Bard and Sor get it at 16th, Wiz at 15th]
Target: 1 creature

This spell functions like Haste except that it gives a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Additionally when using the standard attack action a hasted creature may make one extra attack with any weapon he is holding. If he makes a full attack action, he may make two extra attacks with any weapon he is holding, however the second attack is at -5. The attack(s) are made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation (except the second attack with a full attack action is at -5).

As a full-round action a hasted spellcaster may choose to cast two spells (or a creature may use two spell-like abilities). Both spells must have a casting time of one standard action. Otherwise, this spell is as haste.

I like this method because being hasted really allows you to perform a variety of things. A fighter can move 4x his speed as a double move or 4x his speed on a charge and make 2 attacks at the end of the charge. A fighter gets 2 bonus attacks as a full-attack action, which is also a huge boon since they are at almost the highest attack bonus.

A spellcaster has less options because casting 2 spells takes all their actions except a 5 ft. step. It is still extremely powerful as once a spellcaster is in position, they don't need to move much. Also, the spell only affects 1 creature (as 3.0 haste). I was thinking of raising the bonuses to +4, but that might be too much (even if it does only affect 1 creature).

Any suggestions for Slow, Greater?

Y'know, I've been giving the haste issue some thought... I think I may just revert to the old haste, and make it a rule that a spellcaster can never cast more than 2 spells in a single round (plus one for each time they take the multispell feat, possibly more for certain bizarre monsters).

I like that, I think I will use that. As for Greater Slow, I would kick the penalties to -2 to attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves, and make it permanent, can be gotten rid of by break enchantment, limited wish, wish or miracle. And make it the same level as Greater Haste, kick up the DC some.

I really like this, but I'd put it at 6th-level all across the board (maybe doing that should drop the bonuses back down to +1 though). What do you think?

Technik, I too really like your version of this.

I have a spell called Marius' double actions in my game that allows you two full rounds worth of actions each round for 1d4 rounds. It's a 7th level wizard spell.
