Improved Toughness

That's what I've done in my campaign. Even so, nobody wants to spend a feat on it.
Same here. Improved Toughness is so-so, but Toughness is a very, very crappy feat.

That's why I'm appalled when people advance monsters and give them nothing but Toughness as their feats...

How would this affect the x Toughness feats from Masters of the Wild? Or should those feats just be ignored altogether?

Given that Improved Toughness is 3.5, if you're using it, I wouldn't use the 3E MotW Toughness feats as well.

Well that would REALLY discourage a player from taking any of the Toughness feats, making each a pre-req for the next. Every single one of the player's feats would end up going towards it. Seems a bit much to me.

Depends. One of my players took it for his character. Granted, the character is now a dwarven defender. But still, I wouldn't be surprised if he advances a bit in the feat chain. For a fighter, 3 feats in order to heal up to 12 ability points in each damaged ability score each day of rest seems not to be a bad idea. (Plus the 4xlevel +20 hit points.)

Oh, and they aren't all a prereq for the next. The tree is as such:
Code:
   Toughness
       /\
      / \
Improved \
Toughness \
            \
          Dwarf's
         Toughness
             |
             |
             |
          Giant's
         Toughness
             |
             |
             |
          Dragon's
         Toughness

And last thing not to forgot, with two feats (Toughness+Dwarf's Toughness), you get a +1 bonus on each healing spell that targets you. Cure minor wounds heals 2 hp for you! And spells that give you temporary hp get even more boosted. With the four feats of the chain, a false life spells would give you 1d10+caster level+4 temporary hp -- up to 24, in other words. Come on, it's a bargain!

Like some of the others here, I've simply houseruled Toughness to +1 HP per HD. There still aren't very many characters who take it--it's usually just the fighters who don't know what to do with all their feats.

In my book, Toughness as it stands should be trashed and Improved Toughness made the standard. Besides my DM giving the NPC's/ BBEG's/ or Monsters the feat, nobody in my group ever gives there characters Toughness.

Same here.

Or maybe I'd combine Toughness and Endurance.
