I need someone to clear up the description of improved metamagic special power of the incantatrix.

Can you lower the level cost of extend spell from 1 to 0?

I looked at the incantatrix class listing on wht wotc website, but I think the one there is different from the one in the published book (MoF).

No. You could lower the cost of any metamigic feat costing more than one level by one level, for example Quicken Spell or Empower Spell.

But you CAN do some pretty groovy things. Take a 6th level Abjurer and 9th level Inactatrix. Character Level 13)

Well (Here comes the calculations)...Magic missile would do 5d4+1 damage by then.

Maximize spell (3 levels higher -1=2) Would do 25 damage
+
Empower Spell (2 levels higher -1=1) Would do 37 damage
+
Twin Spell (3 levels higher -1=2) Would do 74 damage
(Twin might be 4...don't have my book here)

All that would take up a 6th level spell slot, then cast it with your patented once-per-day free metamagic feat use of Chain Spell, and Blamo! After 2 rounds, you have 148 damage done by a 6th level spell with 0 rolls. Not too shabby for a metamagiced 1st level spell, huh?

Why would you maximize anything, especially with a reduced cost on empower. It's usually more efficient to empower a spell over maximizing it, and the incantrix cost reduction lets you empower twice for every maximize. 2 Empowers are greater than one maximize.

Twin spell is 4 levels, Repeat spell is 3.
