Innapropriate do you think?

I'm going to post on the train of thought thats been shown here, the child characters.

IF one plays a child they do it by choice.
If one plays a child they realize some will wish to talk to them, some won't.
If one plays a child they have to be creative in why the child is there (perhaps it's not really a child but a guise?)

BUT if one plays a child they shouldn't have to be treated unkind, rude or outright cruel. I personally will not rp against most children characters in past though i've talked to them, child vampire, and some little elven boy loooong ago)

No matter what you rp, it gives no one free range to be brutal to you ic or ooc. Pm's help, let someone know "Look my character really wouldn't talk to a child but thanks" not just shove the character away and scream. Or speak about them but not to them. All players deserve a bit of kindness. Sometimes we all speak to someone who'd rather not speak to us, but if they are kind about it feelings are never hurt and people walk away happy. Perhaps we could just be civilized and all would be well. Kindness goes a long way you know.

Maybe my point was misunderstood in my last comment. I did choose to play a younger character of course, but my point is for those that have made this choice the options are limited because for some odd reason everyone is offended when a child comes into a tavern. But it is ok for vampire/dragon/angel demons in there true form to appear in the tavern. The tavern as I understand it is not a club, which everyone treats it like, but as mentioned before a place to relax. Maybe perhaps a restaurant or even an inn would be a more approriate title for it. If i have misunderstood the concept of the tavern then maybe Beegee should stand at the door and like in real clubs and bars makes ure they are of appropriate age. I.e card everybody

Again I was not complaining about people reactions to my character, that was misunderstood and I may have not made that point clear. I made the choice and deal with that choice every time I come here as that character. I enjoy dealing with the reactions people have to the character, again some good and some bad. I am not here to annoy others PM me if I am bothering you during gaming.

As for the survival issue, sit down and talk to the boy sometime and he can explain how he is able to survive.

My real point is that just because a character is a child or something unique dont dismiss it. You are here to have fun and all of us have some sort of story to tell. Sit down and let them tell it listen to the others and have fun while you are here. But keep it within the guidelines set down by the Wizos

I think one problem that people have with child characters, is the made up child-speak, that some folks use. I dont mean to be... harsh sounding. But it just.. well its bad. Children do say some things funny. Fry fry for frenchfries. Me want to walk. But I've never met a child who puts s's at the end of every word, or inserts a w into words at random. Examples: Yous wants to sits wif me? Comes tos mys hwouse.

Maybe an alternative would be to emote a note that the child lisps, from time to time. Example: Billy lisps "Is that for me?" or
Billy says that in an endearing lisp, or adorable lisp.

No, it's not breaking any rule. : )

eh, maybe I'm the only one?

Perhaps people should be reminded that when playing a child, play them like a child.

I just wanted to "voice" my opinion on the matter of children in the Cross Roads TAVERN. It isn't a club or a friendly pub as the description of the room (if people would bother to read the room descriptions) but a rough and tumble place. 99.9% of players can't come up with a REASONABLE reason a child would be there. No matter how "crafty" said child is their instinct for survival or common sense should kick in when they see what and who comes around the place. Yeah yeah I know the same would go for normal people but at least those players have the easy excuse of saying "I am an adventure and have you seen the adventures that take place here?!?!?!".

One thing I have noticed when reading books set in medieval time frames is that if there are children present in a tavern they are usually the offspring of the owner, cook, or waitress working there or someone that they have taken in that HELPS out around the place not just hang out eating cookies and drinking milk. I'm not saying that there haven't been children around taverns in some of the books I have read but those children were very very very very few and far between.

I know that I am not the only one that feels the same way about the kiddies in the tavern or the stupid uber intelligent animals that just wonder on in(thank goodness for Pou's mop and broom!!! :D ). No it isn't nice or polite to ignore characters like that but ALOT of us don't play nice or polite characters and many of us aren't nice or polite either. As I've said many many times before if you want to do something that goes against the norm then be prepared for ridicule and persecution in some form. That is a sad fact but one that many need to learn and learn to cope with in some form or another what ever that may be.

Ok, so while there are points in all of these that I agree with there is one thing i'd like to touch on. Fenmarel, while i agree that for the most part children should not be present in the tavern, there are the cases of it happening. I've played a little girl since i started like seven years ago. There are times I just won't bring her in and there are times that it's great fun having her there...it's a personal choice...and it's everyone choice to interact notice or ignore any other char if they so chose.

There are some bad child char's heck i've had bad days with any char i've played. Basically what i am saying is there are a lot of things that "shouldn't" be in the tavern but they are still there and those that are playing think of creative ways to have them there....isn't this game about fun? The issues brought up at the beginning of this thread have been delt with and now I think we should go back to focusing on things that can make this game fun again instead of going back and forth about what is good and bad.

Have fun all,
Bri

I can... it's a middle ages world, and 'kids' are considered 'adults' at say, 13 years of age back then.

Why? Because their muscles are all fully workable, and they can be useful in the field. Most people don't live to long, despite magic, because magic is Expensive.

Besides that, there aren't any age restrictions in Ye-Olde taverns. Here's the restriction: Whose got coin?

Any ways, that's just me. :tiphat: :P

Ah now say a 13-15yr old isn't out of the scope of reality in any setting. A six year old that can slay dragons with lightning bolts from his/her arse is too far out there.

I can understand the teenage characters shoot some of the most fun I ever had was rping with a teenage character(miss rping with ya Glory Tide!) the ones I have a problem with are the 2-12 yr olds that come in start trouble left and right for the sake of getting attention. I have a problem with people actually thinking that their 7yr old kid truelly can back down that devil terrorizing all the seasoned warriors. That is just plain stupid pure and simple. The people playing that type would notice it as well if they would trully look over the concept they are coming up with before they throw their pile of dung on the rest of us and expect us to love the smell of it.

I'm noticing a lot of negative comments out here.

Just to let you all know, I've met plenty of well-played child characters in my days, as well as not-so-well played ones. I myself have a child character, not even nine years old, and I can admit that though I'm not the best RPer out there I do try. This child character of mine have NEVER once been in the tavern, does not own any weapons unless you call a nice crooked stick a weapon, and pretty much fears everything INCLUDING heights. And yes, there really wouldn't be much reason for a kid to be in a tavern full of violent drunks ( ;) ), but the joy of RPing is being able to reach deep into the dusty corners in the back of our brains and pull out interesting and creative excuses to be in there. So perhaps people should try accepting some of these creative ideas instead of thinking of children as nuisances.

Maybe I've made a good point, or maybe I've just babbled on endlessly. But at least I've said it, and it makes me feel good:D

All right gang, for the second time now I am beginning to see things vere towards a more personal sort of commentary on this thread. Let's remain courteous and keep it civil if you please. I really don't want to have to mention this again, if you don't mind. Watch the commentaries guys.
