Invasion of the 5-10 page PDFs . . .

-AS IF-, Ed. I don't think I've EVER seen you without a huge smile on your face.

Believe NOTHING that Ed claims here. He is the happiest designer ever. Heck, his latest advertising gimmick is the best sales incentive I've seen in years.

I may now go Buy e-Adventure Tiles so Ed can take a trip to Fiji - then he can grin somewhere else than Washington. :)

What about payoff for everyone here?

I'm doing all the art & writing on the Animal Archives series. I certianly am not doing it just for the cash.

Do the other publishers go through a lot of artists/designers, or are they in it for the "love of the game" as well? What is the turnover for the PDF Industry?

P.S. Hellhound:

I have, in fact, seen Ed not smiling. : )

I'm throwing in a "Me Too" in there.

I was surprised to see how many publishers on another forum felt that a lot of the products on RPGnow are crap.

To heck with them.

I think our industry is producing great stuff, and we are all working together to make it better.

Always room for another "me too". Ditto that, HellHound!

I've heard that a lot but they never say what is crap, so I personally never give them any credit. People who claim "Most of" something is crap but never give examples are usually un trust worthy.

And having fun! Don't forget the fun.

There's a lot of excellent products being published as pdfs.

Of course, having fun is important in this business. Helps to keep us a tiny bit sane. (Remember, to be in this business you have to partially insane to come up with all these great ideas to write. :) )

I'm sort of a special case with Knowledge (Current Events) in that, in addition to running only a couple pages each issue, it's also a free product.

My reasons for the format, therefore, are purely personal as opposed to being driven by any sort of business plan or acumen.

I've seen lots of free d20 zines out there that have put out one issue and then sunk without a trace. And lots more that have survived, but their schedules become so bogged down that they can only publish once a year. Making each issue only one double-sided 8.5"x11" page has helped me avoid those possibilities.

There might not be a whole lot to an issue of K(CE), but at least they manage to get released occasionally. Sure, they're largely exercises in writing and layout for my own self-improvement, but I'd like to think that other people can get something out of them too.
