Iron Heroes: Tales of Arnesia Game Thread

Sasha: You manage to find a pretty good place to rest. It's beneath lone willow tree... nestled in a kind of valley between two hills. The tree will provide shade... and the hills will act as an obstruction of site... helping to keep your presence hidden from any bandits or the like.

"Who wants dinner...?" Rholn says in a low, somber tone. Wishing more than ever that they had just burned the remains, Rholn's curiosity begins to get the better of him as he picks his way carefully around the carcass.

"What do you think Gol, some kind of... hive-mind parasite? I'm guessing all these smaller worms acting in concert are what gives it's host it's locomotion under the guidance of the larger one. Then that begs the question - Are the worms under outside control?"

"Moreover, if we run into these things again I suggest we concentrate our attacks on these larger worms. Perhaps we can take them down with... one... clean... shot..." Rholn's voice seems to drift away as his eyes fall upon the wound he took in battle... and the wounds of his companions.

Rholn then quickly moves in behind the beast where the larger worm was attached to it's neck. Looking closely, he tries to determine whether the worm attached itself to it's host from the outside... or grew out of it from the inside.

"Could be hive mind. Though with that larger bug there, I do not know if it is controlled by some outside force. Those seem to be the ones in charge. Certainly is weird, I haven't seen any strange parasites even close to these before. If we do spot them in battle, concentrating on these big bugs might end things more quickly." replies Golgorak, postulating what the bugs do. He really doesn't seem much like the typical berserker, his size belies his intelligence.

"Guys, after you finish with these disgusting things, you can follow me. I have found the perfect place to rest. Just be sure to burn these bugs when you stop your paramedic games"

As you study the body... you find no visible entry wounds aside from the two holes where the creature was sprouting out of, and the cut made by Golgorak. You guess that the two holes at the base of the neck were made by the creature from the inside... which is most disturbing. This creatures appears to have grown inside the Ankheg, produced offspring... then took control. In all your travels... none of you have ever heard of anything like this.

"That's just icky," Cain says with an over-exaggerated expression of nausea. "Let's just burn them down and get over to where big sis Shasha has secured our place of rest."

"Erm, yeah, sounds good."

Tolan follows Shasha over and begins setting himself up. When the others are around, he addresses them all again.

"Uh, look, we all agree it looked like those things grew from the inside, right? We don't know *how* they got into those ankhegs, though. And I, for one, am not going to chance it. I'm going to whip up a very mild poison to take - I figure it should kill anything starting to grow inside of me. It shouldn't be too bad, though. Will anyone else want any?"

As I feared... Rholn rises and returns to his horse and rummages through his saddlebags, producing a few vials of oil. Dousing the carcasses, he sets them alight with a hurled torch as he begins making his way to camp.

Back at camp, he inspects the wound he suffered in combat, looking for anything out of the ordinary. Upon hearing Tolan's suggestion, he resoundly agrees that everyone should be treated for disease as a precaution...

"Also, it's probably a good idea to stick to rations for the time being. The local game could very well be infected as well. And who's got the map? If there are any settlements nearby they should be warned of this... if they're not already aware. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea hire a courier to send word back to the city too."

[sblock]On his watch, Rholn will post up in a tree overlooking the surrounding area.

Yay! 1,000 posts...

...again. :uhoh: [/sblock]

You guys aren't in Arnesia yet, so the map won't help you... but all of you are familiar with this area. There is a town called Escal to the north... which also happens to be your renevous point for further instructions aboput entering Arnesia. (I think I forgot to tell you guys that... so now you know, sorry!) Your wounds appear to be fine... merely cuts and abrasions, with the odd shallow gash. You were mostly winded form the combat... which made your injuries seem greater. However... one can never be too careful.

After seeing that disgusting things, I need something strong to forget it. Alcohol seems too weak in this moment so I’ll try your cicuta. "
To purify the food, maybe Golgorak knows some miraculous procedure to do it.
Anyway, at this moment I’m not especially hungry.
Maybe can be a good idea to make some guards, in groups of at least two persons. It’s a pity that no one has bought a dog. His nose would be useful to detect those insects.
