(IRR) Turn 1: The Emerald Contest

"Shiba Tsukune-San," Nimuro bows graciously, " I thank you for your compliment. My opponent was skilled indeed, but not so skilled as you. My ancestors certainly must smile upon me if I am to defeat you."

;) Bump, we are almost ready to judge this round then? I only counted 3 posts, but there should be 4, and one that I counted doesn't look like a full post.

More or less ready, except for a real strategy post (against Serpenteye... I guess I'll lose the strategy highly :o ). Won't be posting it today, in all likelyhood.

Roleplay and strategy post, Matsu Nimoro

In his tent, the evening before the duel, Matsu Nimuro carefully studies his opponent. Shiba Tsukune was almost a legend in the Empire and many had written about her prowess. Mounds of scrolls are strewn out before him, each of them filled with information, often conflicting, often biased, about the battle tactics of Tsukune. Surprisingly little of it would be useful, but hopefully it should give him the edge he needed.

In the morning, during his ritual meditative exersize (also in the tent) he goes over in his mind the information he learned and applies that to his training. His sword a blur, striking and parrying against an imagined opponent wearing the face of Tsukune.

At noon, when the duel is about to commence, he is prepared, his mind is focused and his body a mere extension of his will. His every movement is filled with power and grace.

Once again he studies his opponent, this time standing right before him, examines her every movement, and prepared for all eventualities, for any tactic, he advances. Knowing his opponent will probably expect him to use uncommon strategies he's decided to fight this duel more traditionally, using all his skill to deflect an attack from his opponent while trying to strike Tsukune's mon.

-
Strategy:
1: Knowledge is power. By studying his opponent he knows what to expect, but is still an experienced enough warrior to expect the unexpected.
2: Sometimes the most usual tactic is the one least expected. If he can take his opponent by surprise the battle is as good as won.

edit: Changing he to her in reference to Tsukune.

Strategy post

Matsu Nimoru. A veteran of the Lion clan. Well versed in strategy. What could surprise him? What strategy would he use?

He had defeated Sanctus Togashi, a powerful opponent. Could he defeat Shiba Tsukune? Indeed he could, unless she had a superior strategy. Should she use cunning, pure speed, or a different strategy?

Speed. Strike faster than Nimoru. It could be possible. But is it enough?

Cunning. Feint Nimoru. Can such a warrior be feinted?

Concentration upon the very moment that will determine the outcome of this duel. Draw upon the Void. A very important moment... And then it begins!

A quick strike into the direction of Nimuro's blade, but switching directions quickly towards the Lion mon. Not touching the blade is her goal, severing the mon is. A swift move... but was it fast enough?

Utaku Xieng-Chi enters the battlefield and bows in front of her opponent.
"I salute you, Kakita-san, I am indeed honored to be considered worthy of challenging a member of the noblest academy of duelists in Rokugan. I'm sure Unicorn and Crane will never raise swords against each other in any other way. If the kami will assign the victory to you, I know you'll serve as a skillful and wise Emerald Champion like many of your ancestors did."
Then her eyes goes to the banner of the Shiotome, the Battlemaidens and she prays her ancestors.

Otaku-sama, Avatar of Mercy, you whose fealty to Lady Shinjo never needed words, and Kamoko-sama, Paragon of honor and virtue, sisters all who rode with the Battlemaidens, I pray to you.
Grant me the strenght to face this worthy opponent and claim for the Unicorn the glory of the Emerald Armor. Fill me with the wind of the Days of Thunder and with the roar of a thousand charges, so that I might prevail, or, if I must lose, that I might lose with dignity.

Xieng-chi close her eyes and feels the wind across the field with her hair, with her finger, with her skin, with her breath. She tries to become one with the wind, that cannot be severed by iron. She knows she isn't young anymore, and that her opponent will be quicker so she prepares to find the lightness to dance along his strike as the wind will, and touch with a nimble movement of the arm the Crane mon on Kaiten's back.

OOC: I'm very very sorry for the delay, after I insisted to participate. I deserve a penalty for it. :o

In a dark chamber, away from the Emerald Contest going on...

"I love tea..." A shadowed figure sits down meditatively, his legs crossed and his slender hands delicately holding an obsidian cup filled with tea. "...How about you, Kyoso?"

The oni snarls a bit, "Enough of your games Daigotsu, what are you going to do about the clans, what about your promise to me?"

Daigotsu smiles slightly, feeling the hot vapors rising from the cup caress his face. He whispers his intention to Kyoso no Oni as a grin begins to form on her lips as well...

"And so it has begun." Daigotsu says, taking a sip from the tea within his cup.

Observations of the Crane and Unicorn Representatives:

The strikes are both designed well, and all things are set. It seems that although the Crane representative scores a hit accross the mon, and his opponents delayed thoughts slowed his reaction...

However, the judges are not quite quick enough to see the incredible speed of the strike. It appears as though the Unicorn representatives blade strikes first to the judges, who think that the Unicorn dodged the blade with incredible cleverness...

(OOC: Lichtenhart and Festy Dog, the judges believe that the match was won by Lichtenhart, but both fighters honestly know that Festy Dog's character has won the duel. I know this puts you on the spot, but it seems... interesting, and it fits perfectly with your scores.)

The Lion and Pheonix representatives stand ready. They are both respectful, though the Lion representative seems more worried about losing than his opponent. The preparations are interesting, but still, it seems as though the Pheonix representative was able to divide the Lion Mon a split second before the Lion was able to use his uncanny wit to outsmart his opposition.

The final battle approaches...
