D&D (2024) Is anyone going to use the new 2024 backgrounds?

You should create it yourself
This line of reasoning doesn't fly, it's like saying someone should run for president if they don't like the way things are. Just because someone has good ideas, it doesn't mean they have the time or platform to create the level of change they want to see. Realistically people are generally just able to affect their communities, and hope from there things will spread.

People house rule because they think their rule is better and make the game worse. And then complain that the rules are bad.

Depends how well thought out the house rule is. Many certainly do make the game better. Other times, maybe not enough thought was put into it, or there is disagreement between players about it. Ideally the rulebook itself is good enough that not many house rules are needed. The problem is even if someone has an "objectively better" version of a game, it might include so many changes that it's just too hard to get a whole group on board; they don't want to do the "homework" of deviating from a published book that will be the standard for other playgroups.

Yeah.
But constant complaining does not help either. You can still do things for your community by engaging in social engagements.

Yeah. You can house rule. But you should not have catalogues of them but only so many that everyone can remember them.

Our house rule: long rests take a whole day instead of a night. And many of our problems with balance went away.

Do you not realise pretty much everyone would rather be a player than a DM? We DM because if we don’t no one else will, not because it’s our preferred role.
And I am a DM already--for Dungeon World. Which is not my preference to play, but it is a game I'm happy to run. I do not have the time nor energy to run more than one game.

Judging by a video from Treantmonk and D4 Deep Dive who have early PDFs to review the 2024 Players Handbook, it looks like it definitely wont have background customizability as player facing. But the DMs Guide go into it.

I have mixed feelings about this. I like how the 2024 presentation of background makes narrative central. But I worry about disempowering player creativity when creating a backstory for a character concept.

I hope the DMs Guide strongly advises DMs to work with players when detailing a characters background.
