Is it worth taking Use Magic Device?

Currently, i'm struggling whether to make an *apprently* weak spellcaster (Rog3/Ftr2/Wiz15)...yet i'm unwilling to go Rogue/Fighter the entire way because of what i believe is "lack of flavour after level 10 theorum"...

After looking at Use Magic device however, i realised you'd have to put in a Rank every level at least to have it effective...something i'm simply not interested in doing...

Yet is the Rog/Ftr/Wiz all that ineffective? i see BAB or +11/+6/+1, relatively good saves, and up to level 8 spells...

and sure it's a shame not to use Mordenkainen's disfunction, Gate, Power Word Kill, Meteorswarm, Shapechange,Timestop etc etc...but your pretty much at the level one of the most powerful spellcasters in 'your' world anyway...think on that...

Any advice? a better combination of levels? I must add that while i want to be a extremely good spellcaster, we already have a straight wizard in the group, and i'm generally thinking of being the parties Rogue/Fighter and Backup Wizard...so i'll probably take less wizard levels...any ideas?

If you want to be able to use spells THAT high in level, you'd best take caster levels.

Remember, Use Magic Device is only really going to help you use wands, scrolls, and maybe a staff. Wands can't have any spell higher than 4th level... and you might be a bit hard-pressed to find wizards that are going to scribe you a lot of the 7-9 level scrolls for you to use.

Use Magic Device is GREAT for low level scrolls and ANY wands. If you want to use big spells though... you might as well take caster levels instead.

The real advantage of use magic device is you can use divine spells from wands. Now you can cast cure spells and cleric only spells like silence.
