Is there a point to the Quick Draw feat?

My wizard has quickdraw, for all those wands, scrolls, rods... he carries. It has been VERY useful so far. It lets me draw an item I need, use it, and then run like heck.

It's also really handy for the longspear / longsword combo: opponent charges at you, provoking an AoO then, as he gets inside the longspear's reach, you switch to your sword and set upon him with that instead.

In our games, we have a house rule wherein drawing a weapon provokes an AoO as well (just like picking one up does), and Quick Draw negates that penalty, which makes it even handier. But that's only in our games.

3.5 version of Refocus Action

And actually, this was one of the very, very few occasions that the Refocus action in combat was actually useful: if you got the surprise round on someone, you could use your partial action to refocus, practically guaranteeing that you got to go before them in the first full round of combat. I see it's no longer in 3.5, but I'd certainly allow a character to give up their suprise round action in exchange for knowing they'd go first in the full round of combat.

Hmmm. Not too sure about this. Firstly, 3.0 Refocus used to require a Full Round Action (you can Ready a Standard Action only) and, secondly, have you seen what high-level rogues can do if they win initiative?! I would want to be thinking really hard before making that particular trick of theirs any easier...

Right. In the Surprise Round, you could use the Start Full Round Action Partial Action to begin refocussing, but you wouldn't be able to finish it until your normal initiative count comes up in the next round, requiring another partial action to complete.

Which very much defeats Pielorinho's purpose, I suspect.

If it's any other class, such as a 1st-level rogue (BAB +0), Quick Draw would be helpful, along with Improved Initiative, to get the jump
Unfortunately Quick Draw has a prereq of BAB +1, so the rogues, clerics, etc. cannot take it at 1st level.

Refocus & Ready are two different things.

Where he said "You can Ready a standard action", he meant to say "In the surprise round, you can only take a partial action".

The point is that you can't Refocus in the surprise round, because it requires a full round action that you don't have.

Unless you're Hasted, in which case you could take the SFRAPA with your normal action, and the CFRAPA with your Haste Partial.

I've got plans for my backup fighter to have it; starts out the attack with an improved trip attempt with his flail-if he has to drop the flail, out comes the longsword to continue...

I try and make sure every character I create who makes it their business to fight regularly takes it.

First, it's just cool. It's like iaijutsu lite in the draw and attack meaning of it.

Second...it helps with fighting foes with DR (so you can get your DR-piercing weapon in hand), and those with sunder and disarming schticks.

Under the evil brothel intent on enslaving the city, the rogue bails from the big combat against the nasty demon to go "scout ahead". He makes his Listen check and hears someone coming, so Hides.

The big bad, coming to surprise the party as they're dealing with the demon, blows her Spot roll.

Quickdraw and sneak attack on the surprise round. Critical and some ungodly amount of damage.

Rogue wins initiative. Big bad is STILL subject to sneak attack, of course, and so takes two more MASSIVE hits. Dies.

I was devastated. The entire climactic battle, gonzo. Sigh.

The evening wasn't a total waste, though. The rogue decided that he was invincible and decided to abandon the party completely in order to loot the place. Which was still full of angry yuan-ti sorceresses with stone golems at their command. They turned him into a garter snake and stuck him in a crystal vase.

The main times I've seen quick draw used is for those rogues who love throwing daggers.

One time I think I've seen a player wish he had it was when he was boxed in with enemies in front of him and allies behind him so it took him a move action to pull out his sword while the enemy who'd already gotten a partial on him due to sneak attack, got a full attack on him again. Ugly scene.
