Is'Merith - Campaign Thread

[SBLOCK=OOC]Okay, if I counted right, that’s 17 goblins left? The more I picture it, the more I think Isaac, Al, and Mina are going to be swarmed. Mina especially since she is already grappled. Plus, we don’t know what Tro’leera is capable of and whether it’ll be beneficial or not. I don’t think fleeing is viable for at least this round because of the OAs that they would take. Isaac and Mina can’t even Disengage since they’re grappled. My thought is to try to set up for a mobile battle and pick them off as they chase us. Hopefully, in a round or two, the others might be able to break free enough for us to get away a bit. That type of movement away from them might mitigate the drag underground attack. Regardless at this point, I think I’m going to focus on supporting Mina since she is the only one of us that can heal. [/SBLOCK]

Turning back made Daedarai’s blood grow cold. There was a sea of these creatures clawing their way to the surface. Al, Isaac, and Mina were all in difficult positions. A seed of doubt began to claw at his thoughts as he tried to quickly count the goblins. They could die here. Desperate to ignore the thought, he grabs another arrow, aims to support Mina, and lets another arrow fly.

“Keep moving! We’re no good to them if they catch us too,” he shouted towards Tro’leera as he dashed further back hoping to stay alive long enough to help his team.

[SBLOCK=Rolls]
Attack Roll: 1D20+5 = [17]+5 = 22
Damage (assumes sneak attack due to Mina being in melee): 1D6+1D6+3 = [5]+[2]+3 = 10
If Mina kills the one grappling her, I’ll shoot at the one coming at her. If she doesn’t kill the one on her, I’ll shoot that one. If sneak attack doesn’t trigger, ignore the second d6 for a total damage of 8.
After attack, I’m assuming with the terrain that there is no where to hide so I’m just going to keep distance by moving far enough away that they can’t reach me in a single turn without dashing. If needed, assume that I take the Dash action as my bonus through cunning action to get that distance, but I don’t think it’s needed. I don’t want to exceed about 60 feet from the action.[/SBLOCK]

As Alejandro runs, he calls to the poisoner, spittle spraying from his lips as his neck veins pulse.

"Troll Era, who the sandy f*** are this they you're crying about? And what's tonight?"

[sblock=OOC] I'm not really experienced with being grappled, so I don't really know what my options are or what rolls I need to make to escape
[/sblock]

[sblock= OOC/Grappled?] Are Mina and Isaac actually grappled at this point, or has the process merely begun? I only ask because the actual Grappled condition normally requires more than a successful attack roll- it is usually a contest of attacker's grapple (STR + Athletcs) vs target (either STR +Athletics or DEX +Acrobatics, target's choice). If the goblins have some special attack form that improves their grappling ability, Mina will probably cast Vicious Mockery; if it is a contest, she will resist with DEX +Acrobatics, 1d20+5= 24; roll http://www.coyotecode.net/roll/lookup.php?rollid=104457 . Please let me know what her actual status is, so I can do a relevant IC post. [/sblock]

"What'd you say?!" Shen shouts frantically in Tro'leera's direction. Her eyes are spinning in her head. All these goblins, and now the half-elf Guy's some goblin king or something, and Alejandro's shouting something and Isaac and Mina are stuck and Daedarai's giving orders and more goblins are climbing up and --

Okay, deep breath...this is why you're not in charge...it's out of your control. Don't think so much, just do.

[sblock="Rolls"]From my understanding of the lasso, throwing it at an ally should at least prevent them from getting any further from me (like, underground), unless someone beats me at Athletics or wastes an attack cutting the rope or something. I
may even have a chance to pull them out if necessary.

If Mina or Isaac is still grappled by my turn, lasso them, and pull them out of the grapple if I can do that as part of the same action.

Improvised attack: 1D20+2 = [18]+2 = 20
Athletics?: 1D20+4 = [20]+4 = 24
Critically yanked. The dice gods, they laugh.

Otherwise, halberd attack to keep our retreat clear, focusing on anything attacking Tro'leera.

Halberd attack: 1D20+4 = [17]+4 = 21
Damage: 1D10+2 = [8]+2 = 10[/sblock]

[sblock="Quick rundown on grapple"]Grapple only stops you from moving, nothing else. You can attack as normal. If the grappler and the target end up too far apart for the grapple to hold, it ends. One way you can do this is with a Shove attack. This replaces one of the attacks from your Attack action (but you only get one attack now, so basically you shove instead of attacking), and it's a contest of Strength (Athletics) checks that moves the target back 5ft if the shover wins. You'll be out of their reach then and the grapple will be canceled. Note that if you don't make a weapon attack on your action, you can't make a bonus action attack with TWF either.

All things considered you're likely to OHKO any of these goblins anyway, possibly two things with your two attacks, so I'd just behead them personally.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC] Well then I'll attack them and then probably try to help either Mina or Al, depending on who's in more trouble. I'll get my post typed up in a bit. [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC -Pathfinder] Sorry about that. I'm thinking in Pathfinder CMB and CMD. Mina is absolutely free. I will try to free Isaac as well.

_: 1D20+4 = [6]+4 = 10

That will be unsuccessful I'm afraid, however, Shen will be able to pull him free so long as the gobins fail in an opposed roll vs her lasso:

_: 1D20+4 = [1]+4 = 5

Success![/sblock]

With a mighty bellow, Shen takes a deep breath into her lungs and pulls Isaac towards her with all her might, the Halfling dragged out of the clutches of the goblins, ready to move. He runs forward, drawing his two blades and swings at the goblin attacking Tro'Leera, cleaving each blade Scissor-like at its neck,, separating its head from its body![sblock=Isaac]_: 1D20+4 = [9]+4 = 13
1D6+2 = [3]+2 = 5
1D20+4 = [19]+4 = 23
1D6+2 = [4]+2 = 6

[/sblock]

Mina, free from claws, is free to move next...

Mina barely managed to choke back a bloodcurdling shriek as the goblin grabbed at her. Almost instinctively, her dancer's training kicked in and she shifted her balance; the goblin, obviously unused to such a response, closed its claws only on a trailing fringe of her cloak. While her more warlike companions reacted with practiced violence, Mina reacted instinctively as well- she ran, barely managing to hold onto her bow as she did...

She moved gracefully, for all her apparent panic- several of the vicious beasts clawed out at her, but none of them even came close. Finally clear of the nearest goblins, she looked at Shen desperately. "You've got to get us out of here," she sang out- and the sheer desperation of her call was enough to give Shen a boost of confidence. This was her kind of ground, after all, and her kind of fight...

[sblock= OOC Actions] In order: Action- Disengage; Move action- move 'forward' as much as possible (30 feet?); Bonus action- Bardic Inspiration to Shen (use 1 of 3) [/sblock]

With a new a burst of speed, the alchemist continues to run forward, panting. The rest of the party doing the same.

[sblock=OOC]Just to clarify things. Assuming everyone has been consistently moving away, Daedarai, Shen and Tro'Leera are now 60ft from the ambush sight, whilst the others are 30ft away. Thus comes the turn of the sand goblins just before turn 3.[/sblock]

The goblin that had attempted to drag Mina down barked multiple times, then trilled a high pitched bark, different to the others. Those below started to run towards the party, ignoring the requirements for cover. As the goblin ran towards Mina, it was downed by Daedarai just before it could strike her.

The other goblins were at the bank now preparing to climb as the party moved up the sloping path and away from danger. The goblins that remained in the soil perhaps did not wish to be pursued. Or maybe they would wait for their companions to leave and feast on their fallen brothers?

Suddenly in response to the barking another 3 goblins burst out of the sand where the path narrowed. One in front of Tro'Leera, one in front of Daedarai and one in front of Shen. They had the exit covered too!

Appearing at the crest of the sloping path was what appeared to be a series of 4 of the same goblin each moving in unision with the other. Wearing not but human bones and skin, in place of digging claws appeared to be some sharp goblin-like claws, further the creatures seemed to shine red in the moonlight, though in every other way they appear to be sand goblins. Waving their hands around they chants manically and point their finger at the goblin in front of Daedarai and the other in front of Tro'leera. Two beams emit from their hands and the goblins have each grown and are now equal in size to a human. Swiftly, the goblins on the rocks speed up and somehow cast a second spell, this time causing missiles to fly from its hands.

One strikes Shen, another strikes Mina and another hits Isaac (In that order):
[sblock=OOC]_: 1D4+1 = [1]+1 = 2
1D4+1 = [2]+1 = 3
1D4+1 = [1]+1 = 2
[/sblock]

The goblin in front of Daedarai swings its blades down upon him, but he easily dodges out of its way. [sblock=OOC]_: 1D20+2 = [4]+2 = 6
3D4 = [4, 1, 3] = 8
[/sblock]

The big goblin in front of Tro'Leera smiles as it bears down, the impact of its claws on the surface throws sand around it in a 5ft radius. However it missed its target: [sblock=OOC]_: 1D20+2 = [4]+2 = 6
3D4 = [4, 3, 4] = 11
[/sblock]

Finally, the normal sized goblin in front of Shen attacks, but misses woefully.
[sblock=OOC]_: 1D20+2 = [5]+2 = 72D4+2 = [1, 3]+2 = 6
[/sblock]

With that, the party must keep moving.

[sblock=OOC]We're up to round 3 now. What do you all do? Nobody is grappled and everyone is free to move. Those who had a head-start are 15ft from the spellcaster. Others are 45ft from him and 30ft from the enlarged goblins. The gobs in the pit will take at least 2 rounds to climb stop the cliff-face[/sblock]

Shen blushes slightly, despite everything. ("Get us out of here?" Me?) She's got that weightless feeling in her stomach, like when you're just sitting in a crowded bar thinking you're alone and then everyone throws you a surprise party and all eyes are on you suddenly. Sort of like that.

Gods. Damned if it doesn't hurt to care about something and watch it fade away...but damned if she can't stop caring. She clears her throat and nods sternly at Mina. 'It's out of your control' won't cut it. Even if it is true...everyone's depending on each other, and on Shen. There's one thing that is under her control: if she's not left in the sand, no one is.

That's one thing she took away from grunt work. The other was her halberd. The third thing was that snakes don't fight well headless, or...something close to that. Well her side's head had a huge snarling goblin on top of it, and the other guys' head was four heads that were all on their lonesome.

[sblock="OOC"]...wow. Didn't expect that much spellcasting punch, definitely didn't expect it from a goblin.

Okay, this might be crazy...but it would be fantastic if Al Han were wrecking magical goblin face/groin right now. Would it be possible to Ready an action to throw him as he moves past me, giving him at least 20ft (!) (yeah it's a lot) of extra movement to let him reach those caster guys and attack? The closest I can find to a rule on this is that I would have a 20/60 range using an improvised ranged weapon of Gnome. By my read I might have to back up 5ft or so to get in his move range, provoking OA; that's fine. Hopefully I don't eat a crit and end my turn early.

If not, first priority is to charge a roider next to Isaac or Daedarai, if one's still alive. (Again, fine if that provokes.)

Attack: 1D20+4 = [11]+4 = 15
Damage: 1D10+2 = [6]+2 = 8

If I kill it, keep moving right up in the face of a caster.

Second priority if no one threatens them: rush the caster that shot me (assuming I only draw one OA from that movement) and attack.
Third priority if casters are gone: kill the gob next to me and call Han over with some slow-motion Saving Private Ryan-level drama.

One thing about this new ranger: really got no resources or special tricks in combat if I'm not hiding. Hopefully livens up with Spirit Companion.[/sblock]
