It's happening again!: DTRRPG.com is selling WotC books!

Well good luck to them selling individually licensed virtual copies for more than it costs to buy and ship a print copy of the book from any online vendor.
Well, that's because they can afford it. They don't make their living on PDFs, nor do they think they're going to do so anytime soon. So they just put the PDFs at these prices. If some people buy them anyway, all the better for them. At least they're "there" already, so to speak.

I will not be picking up any of these, and it is too bad. I spend my whole monthly rpg budget on pdfs and would like to get WotC books in pdf format, but I don't want to deal with DRM hassles and I can get significantly more gaming product for my money on other d20 pdf products.

Oh well, there is enough pdf stuff I do want that will last me for years and years at my current pdf purchasing rate.

Since I just recently counted up the shelf space of my gaming material, I think I'll take it in PDF. I even talked about the legal issues of rolling your own PDF in this thread.

I had over 1200 cubic feet of gaming books....I had to have the games at my house and now that I do not have a house (divorce), I need PDFs.
We collect differently. I make maybe half a dozen RPG purchases a year, and every once in a while I purge the books I never use. My entire collection is a reasonable three shelves. :)

There are probably a couple of books I'd be tempted to pick up, although charging print prices for PDFs for current product is just gouging, since the amount of work to convert new product to PDF is trivial.

But the DRM kills it 100% dead. No way, no how. Watermarking is fine, but nothing else.

There is no way I'd take a .pdf over a print book--I don't want my collection to be subject to computer viruses, software incompatibilities, hardware malfunctions, and any other debilitating problem that a PC can cough up. I'll just lug 'em around, thanks.

In all fairness, your physical books are subject to an equal number debilitating problems that real life can cough up (water, fire, wear and tear, loss, etc) and you can't even back them up!

It's a lot easier to protect physical books from harm. Besdies, I'm no computer guru. Something always seems to be wrong with my PC. It would make me nervous having everything on my hard drive.

Dual layer dvd burner. 8 gigs on a dvd will back up some serious data.

I don't think WotC could lower prices enough to make pirating go away. Short of giving stuff away for free, of course./M
I've seen The Forge Studios' free pdfs (all available to download at ENGS) at the p2p DC++. It's not a piracy, I don't understand the reasons of a man who do it.

Agreed. In addition, I have two external hard drives just for this purpose, backing up. Toss in the fact that these pdfs will be very small oefs pdfs, a lot will fit on a 4.5gb DVD let alone larger DVDs.

Securing a DVD or even an External Hard drive is much easier than securing entire gaming books. I do not need a firebox the size of 1200 cubic feet to protect my books.

Factual information.

I got a WD 250GB external usb2.0 drive with enclosure for under $100. So I got my internal drive, external drive, DVD-RW, and a little secure digital 2GB shuttle (for stuff I REALLY don't want to lose ever)...I'm backed up 8 ways to Sunday and have still never suffered from a drive failure.
