New Episode of Jericho: Federal Response

The people of Jericho receive a pre-recorded phone call from Homeland Security telling them that help is on the way.

I know many here have fallen out favor where this show, but for those who still watch it.

I liked this episode a lot more than the last one. There were some nitpicky things, and some silly things, but most of it can be overlooked. If the last two episodes were like this one, I wouldn't have been nearly so discontent last week.

Anyone see the IP Hawkins typed in? I know the one on the girl's computer was fake, but his was an actual address.

[edit] Also, I just read that, according to staff, there was network interference until the fourth or fifth episode. So hopefully the fact that this episode was a little better means things are going up. Kinda like missles. Er...

oh for Pete's sake... we finally think we're getting some answers, and what happens? They spend the whole episode on a fire that wasn't all that exciting, the tv signal finally changes to what looks like a podium in front of the Presidential seal... and nothing happens... why in hell is the government broadcasting that signal of an empty podium? Surely they would know that the nation is on pins and needles waiting to know what happened, and they wouldn't broadcast until they were good and ready. And at the end... airplanes fly over? Were they visible? The broadcast signal on my TV was kinda dim, and I couldn't see that scene very clearly.....

I sort got the impression that Hawkins was sending out the signal, with the view of the podium, with that little satelite set up he had outside of town. That was why only the Bar was getting the signal.

Either way, I believe Eric (the brother) said that it wasn't a government broadcast, since they were only picking it up on the satellite. An actual government broadcast would have been on the ERS.

This is the kind of thing that could happen if the power was suddenly turned back on, so I didn't mind too much. Usually there's redundant safety systems, but those could be knocked out by power surges. Plus Emily (the blonde) got zapped, so that was a bonus. Now they just need to zap the bartender.

Also, I know it was kind of a throw-away line, but they do mention that the fire at the library could burn down all of Main Street. I know it sounds silly, but in a small town usually Main Street is the entire infrastructure, and usually they aren't built with fire prevention in mind, like Boston and New York are. It had the right amount of suspense and believability to make it worth watching.

I have decided that while Jericho is still trying too hard to be too many things, it definitely does best with the suspense, and that's what they should stick to.

So, the things in the sky were ICBM launches? When I watched it, I guessed it was either that or jets/bombers, but guessed ICBMs first.

Before that happened, my (newest and now mostly dead) theory was that it was actually a coup, not an outside force, that nuked the cities (and that Hawkins is in on it). I'm still not entirely abandoning that, though.

Yes. Yes indeed. I wouldn't cry if they wiped out all the kids in town, too.

I stopped watching the show becuase it does not seem well thought through, or at least the writers are deliberatly missing lots of things, like the fact rain would not take care of all the fall out, you can't see the mountians from Kansas, etc and so forth and so on. And where is the town preacher when all of this happens?

While that would be entertaining, that would upset many viewers. As I said before, I don't like to see how a model town would properly behave in an emergency. It has to be real.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the cast will be killed during the first season. And yeah, the demons inside me want the popular kids to be killed or cosmetically injured as karmic payback for calling Dale (the store clerk who lost his mom in Atlanta) a "freak."

I kind of like the kids, but the teenagers need to be eaten by a Great Old One. 1d4 per round. :D
