Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd

Don't forget I Hung my Head (Sting), First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack), Desperado (the Eagles), I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (which I believe is a cover of a Willie Nelson song), and We'll Meet Again (which I believe is a cover of an Anne Murray song, but I'm not certain).

I'm so Lonesome I could cry was a Hank Williams song. I prefer the Cowboy Junkies version myself

Yes, but One Piece at a time is a song that is a leeeeetle bit more obscure...EVERYONE's heard or at least heard of Boy named Sue.

I'm not surprised that you're a Johnny Cash fan, considering your nickname. ;)

Hey, thanks - in the 3+ years I've been on this board, I think you're the only one who has made the connection and commented on it. And yes, I'm a pretty big fan :)

I'd also like to suggest Walk the Line to all you Johnny Cash fans out there. While I'm not a big fan of Joaquin Phoenix, he did an excellent job in this movie. I highly recommend the movie to Johnny Cash afficionados.

And over on the JohnnyCash boards there is a rumor that American V may come out in Spring '06. That's pretty exciting :D

I second your suggestion. I just got back from seeing Walk the Line a few hours ago, and it completely blew me away how incredibly accurate Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of Johnny Cash was. He had Cash's mannerisms and attitude down perfectly, and I was shocked when I learned that he wasn't lip-synching during the scenes where he is singing (Phoenix and Witherspoon spent six months in voice training for their roles). Even though I don't have much faith in the Academy because I believe that they're influenced by politics more than anything else, if Joaquin Phoenix dosen't at least get nominated for Best Actor it will be a crime. Reese Witherspoon also deserves mention for her fantastic portrayal of June Carter.

I'll definately be buying this movie when it comes out on DVD.

I'm going to see Walk the Line tonight. I can't wait.

Iwas just listening to hsi version of Desperado, a song that--as much as any factor outside of her personality and hot, hot body:)--made me decide to marry my wife.

Also I'm a little drunk, so I'm likely feeling more maudlin than I otherwise would.

One of my favorite Johnny Cash related stories comes from Fusangite.

He knew a seminarian (whom I beleived he played D&D with) who, upon hearing of Johnny Cash's death, said "well great...there goes the last Christian every single person in the world respected..."

just heard A Boy Named Sue a few hours ago. ;) good stuff!

hey, speaking of Joaquin Phoenix and Johnny Cash... i think it was the movie U-Turn which featured him walking into a restaurant with Ring of Fire playing on the jukebox?
