Keeping track of combat length (for posterity)

The encounter was pretty amazing to watch, although the poor rogues felt very unstriker-y, watching the two defenders and bard doing the lion's share of the damage.
I find this to be a pretty standard scenario for my rogue: he does high damage almost every single round (even when he misses out on CA), but his potential for big novas is much, much, much less than any other character in the group.

Balhannoth.

Balhannoth (doo doo, do do do!)... Balhannoth (doo doo doo do!)... Balhannoth! (Doo doo, do do do, do do do, doo doo dooooo da doo!)

(for those who are confused... they fought a Balhannoth last night. It was a crazy fight. Almost two hours. Stunned and dazed conditions. Crazy burst attacks. And it ALMOST got away! The GM - yours truly - had a blast. The rest of the group is considering switching hobbies to something less stressful. Like shock fishing.)

Session 9: 3 hours total
#1) 105 minutes, 1020 XP, 1 crit, 5 dailies, 5 action points, 8 surges. 6 rounds vs 2 skirmisher 13s, 2 artillery 12s, and 1 elite lurker 13 with ~640 hps.

Balhannoths suuuuuck.

Spreadsheet updated, by the way.

Tough encounters, recently, it seems.

My DDE game next week should be another tough one, and then my home game the following Saturday should be a very different beast.

I should have data from tonight's Encounter session either late tonight or early tomorrow.

We're also playing my "real" game this weekend, so I will prolly have a bit more then, although it's possible that this weekend will be combat-free. I anticipate that they'll at least take on the radioactive hydra, though.

Stats from tonight:

6 pcs, all 2nd level; we had an avenger (me- I played instead of dming tonight, hurray!), a ranger, a warden, a fighter, a cleric and a monk.

This was the encounters session, but all my stuff is in my car, it's late and I don't want to put my shoes back on... so, from memory, the opposition was:

1 blazing skeleton (level 5 artillery iirc)
1 witherling (level 4 skirmisher iirc)
2 skeletons (level 3 soldiers iirc)
A buttload of tomb motes (level 3? minion skirmishers) (I think like 8 of them)

Since I wasn't dming, it was very interesting to play at a table with all folks I know only from D&D Encounters. Sadly, I found the dm to be kind of dissatisfying- he would often go through a monster's turn without telling us who was being attacked (unless he hit), and he wasn't very good at keeping things moving.

Total Rounds: 6
Time: 2 hours 46 minutes
Surges Spent: 9
Dailies Used: 1-3*

*Depends how you count. The fighter used a reliable daily, twice, and missed with it both times. So 1 daily got used & expended; 2 daily powers got used; and there were 3 instances of daily power attacks.

Are you guys satisfied with the amount of combat and the number of combat decisions you need to make for your characters?

I'm seeing a lot of 3 hours and 6 combat rounds being discussed and it leaves me a puzzled.

I'm pretty satisfied, so far.

But, I don't know what you mean by 'a lot'. I don't think I agree with your assessment.

Blargney's combats have been, on average somewhere around 4 rounds and under an hour. About 15 minutes per round, and about 3 minutes per turn (though, you have to figure less for PC turns and more for GM turns).

My combats have been, on average somewhere around 9 rounds and between an hour and 15 minutes and an hour and a half. Around 10 minutes per round, and a little over 2 minutes per turn.

the Jester's games have looked a little longer--about 2 hours and 7 rounds on average, but that's explainable as he has a slightly larger group. A little over 18 minutes per round, but a little over 3 minutes per turn--or, not much longer than blargney's game per turn. And, the Jester is the only one of us that has had close to 3 hours encounters (though, he's had 2 close to that out of 6 games), which seem to be slight outliers anyways.

(EDIT: Also, the Jester is the only one who has had encounters longer than 2 hours--4 of 6 of his encounters... at least partially explained by more players)

All in all, I don't think 2-3 minutes per round is unreasonable at all, so I'm definitely happy with my games. I might prefer to have fewer rounds per ecounter--maybe a number closer to the Jester's, but that'll probably come at higher levels.
