Killing Trolls

Just a question about Trolls. So does their regeneration work after they died. Thus unless they are burned with fire or acid they keep coming. Is this accurate?

Troll regeneration stops once the troll dies, but attacks that aren't fire or acid only do subdual damage to the troll, and don't kill it. Barring DM fiat, the only way to kill a troll is via acid or fire damage.

That is correct, though there are other ways to kill them as well. IIRC cutting off the head and keeping it from then for ten minutes will do the trick, as will drowning them.

suffocating works as well. Nowhere does it say that a Troll is inmune to drowning or been buried alive.

trolls can be killed by fire dmg, acid dmg or cop de grace (edit: death spells, vorpal weapons and petrefy-break also work)
once they're dead they're dead for good

I've always been a little confused by this. Does that mean that you have to deal damage equal to the troll's full hp with fire/acid, or just cauterize the wound once it's below -10?

Cauterizing the wound would be like administering a coup de grace. You have to do it when they are unconscious, and with an attack that does lethal (not subdual) damage.

that was just a game mechanic they added for the CRPG Temple of Elemental Evil.

you need to do normal not subdual damage to get the benefits of a real coup de grace.
