I just heard this was coming in early/mid 2005...

Kingdom of Heaven

During the Crusades of the 12th Century, Balian of Ibelin (Bloom), a young blacksmith in Jerusalem, rises to protect his people from foreign invaders.

Looks like a solid cast.

Set during the 12th century in the holy city of Jerusalem, a young peasant blacksmith (Bloom) becomes a knight so that he may help repel the Crusaders who took control of the city in 1099. Meanwhile, the young knight also falls in love with the city's beautiful princess (Green)... (Neeson plays the blacksmith's father; Thewlis plays a priest.)

I'm sure this will be a big international hit in the mid-east and dispel any fears they have about the US being on a "crusade" against islam....

It looks interesting. I just hope they paid attention to historical accuracy... I'd hate to see this become another King Arthur.

Hollywood shies away from historical accuracy, especially when it comes to religious history. Wouldn't want to upset all those preconceived notions about how things really were and how much superior we are today compared to those people back then.

That said, it might be a good movie.

But anyone who is trying to learn the history of the Crusades by watching this sort of movie is bound to either end up disappointed or ill-informed, depending on how gullible that viewer happens to be.
