Know any good Combat Flight Sims?

First Post
I am a complete combat flight sim addict with a serious shortage of good flight sims and Mech-Warrior style games. If anyone knows any really good ones out there for the PC, new, old, or in the making, I would appreciate your telling me about them. Here's a list of the ones I have and play:

Wing Commander- Most often Prophecy
X-Wing Alliance
X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter
Tie Fighter
Red Baron 3d
Crimson Skies
Freespace
Mech Warrior 3 & 4

So you get the general idea of what I lean towards. I just recently discovered and started playing Freespace, and I'm hooked. Tried looking for but can't find Freespace 2 ANYWHERE. If anyone has a copy they're willing to part with, You've got a buyer right here.

Wow, that looks neat. And WHERE did they get that AMAZING music?

Hmm...I've never really watched Babylon 5, maybe I should...is it still showing on Sci-Fi?

Not sure if its still on Sci Fi. But all 5 seasons are out on DVD. Highly worth it, IMO. Best Sci Fi televsion of all time, IMO.

The thing one must understand about Babylon 5 is that it starts out kind of sketchy and very much like a soap opera. I hated the first three episodes and almost never watched it again. This would have been a terrible mistake. This show is one of the best scifi epics ever created, and should be seen by any scifi fan. You should really give it a try. I just wish the DVDs were a bit less pricey so that it would appeal to a new audience and not just the hardcore Bab5 fans.

On fan produced games, I hear good things about Bruno R. Marcos' Battle of Endor game. It's programmed in Visual Basic 6 using a freeware 3D engine.

I have to say that while Wing Commander: Prophecy is a great game, the physics felt a bit too arcadey at times. It's great for flying around and zapping bugs, but WC3 had the better dogfight feel to it.

I have similar thoughts on MechWarrior 3 compared to its predecessor. MechWarrior 2 was way better, albeit a bit unbalanced with certain configs and weapons.

You have X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. You need no other game. :) I STILL play that after all these years, and while X-Wing Alliance is fun, XvT is just the best. Though I will admit that Freespace is a good one too.

But really, it looks as if you've named the major ones that are worthwhile.

My vote is for Freespace, the expansion Silent Threat and the sequel Freespace 2. I have the newly released limited edition 20th anniversary edition of Freespace 2 which is the Sim of the Year version in new packaging and limited to 5000 copies. Pretty much the ultimate in space combat sims in my book. Btw, I would be willing to part with my Freespace stuff for the right price (think high)... :)

If you´d like to try a more "realistic" flight model, I-War and I-War 2 - Edge of Chaos come to mind.
(The B5 game has a similar flight model, though I found it a lot more difficult at the time I tried their I´ve found Her-Demo).

But speaking of flight games - are there any current or relatively current (attack/combat) chopper simulations? Preferably something that can be played on a 800 MHz computer, without looking to old (like the Commanche vs. Werewolf game I still have somewhere ... )?
I could never really enjoy the modern jetfighter games (though I liked T.F.X.), but I don´t want to be locked in the 1st or 2nd worldwar :)
The best Chopper game I remember was LHX - but that is really old (286 old - and that´s probalby the only reason why I thing it was good)

I've got the Great War and Silent Threat, but not FS2. How low are you willing to go? I'm looking at one on Half.com for $48 +S&H. can you make a better offer? ;)
