Knowing beforehand how many episodes it would be, what's the longest series you've gotten into?

Enterprise >TOS > TNG > DS9 > VOY > Picard I've done at least 3 times . Working now through rewatching all of Stargate (except Universe); I'd watched it when it had originally aired, but it's been a few years now since I've touched it.

One of the rougher ones was M*A*S*H. I watched various episodes when it was on TV, sitting down and binge watching it makes you realize how samey the episodes were.

Great question!

I'm in a weird netherworld; on the one hand, I don't like watching TV shows until they've been on a while. I like to binge at least one season's worth, if not more.

On the other hand .... Lost. I never watched it. Every now and then, I'm like, "Hey, maybe I'll watch it." I get halfway through the first episode and I'm like, "Naw." Seriously- I just can't get into it enough, and it's 121 episodes!

That said- I've re-watched Buffy end-to-end multiple times (but the first time saw it live).
ST:TNG and ST:TOS. Weirdly, I haven't yet done that with DS9.
Babylon 5. Saw it live, re-watched it end-to-end twice.

By number of episodes, probably Red vs Blue. By actual showtime, probably Critical Role.

Though personally, I don't consider length of existing material to be a downside? If I like something enough to keep watching it, more existing material means that there's more to keep watching; if the idea of having so far to go to finish the show or "get caught up" exhausts me, it's probably because I don't actually like the show all that much, and is a sign I should just drop it.

That's OK, you're not missing anything.

I've never been particularly concerned with the length of a tv series when considering whether to start watching it. I'm perfectly fine with dropping it halfway through the series if it manages to lose my interest for more than a season.
I also tend to pick up tv seasons on DVD rather than streaming, so I only ever watch one or two seasons at a time as I happen to find them for sale inexpensively at the usual used places. If the first season looks interesting, I'll get it, and if I like it, I'll get the second, and so on.

I've got all 8 seasons of GoT, all five of Leverage (I watch the whole series at least once a year), up to season 10 of NCIS: LA, the first seven of Arrow, and the first five (six?) of Flash. I got to about season six of Dexter before I started losing interest.

I also used to catch a lot of stuff on tv as reruns (they used to rerun whole seasons on TNT in the afternoons) before I cut the cord and cancelled my tv service.
I've seen every episode of Star Trek: TNG, every episode of the original Law & Order, and about the first six or seven seasons of SVU... Unfortunately, TNT stopped running SVU in reruns after that, and my work schedule didn't allow me to catch the later current seasons as they aired.

So, I guess I'd say the longest tv show I've ever "committed" to watching after its original airing is probably Law & Order...

I've recently rewatched all 7 seasons of Buffy. And I watched all seasons of Breaking Bad, after the hype.

When I decide to watch a show, I tend to see it through to the end. With a lot of recent shows, I can easily tell if I'm hooked or not from the first episode.

I did not start Walking Dead until like the 6th season. Everyone at the time thought I would like it and talked about it, but I never got into it. I started watching on Netflix and binged all the seasons in a few weeks, but now I just wait until the season is posted so I can watch all at once.

I wanted to watch Game of Thrones but did not have HBO at the time. It was around the last season that I finally got it and had to catch up before the guy on the radio would spoil it each week. He at least waited to Wednesday before he would talk about it.
