KoK language rule

If you recall, a while back I was asking about eliminating the common tongue in my homebrew on the general forum. I decided to use the KoK Player's Guide language variant rules. However, I have a few questions about the specific details of the rules:

1. How do you handle native languages? I assume that you don't have to spend any language points. How many ranks does a character get in his native language?

2. The rules specify that the characters get a number of point to spend in languages and writing. Do you purchase ranks in these like standard skills? If so, does that imply that a first level character can only have a max of 4 ranks in a second language? Thus, does it mean that no beginning character can be bilingual? (4 ranks means that the character doesn't speak the language all that well.)

3. How do you handle communication between a native speaker and a non-native speaker that has less ranks in the language? I suppose you would use some type of opposed role.

4. How would you handle dialects? There are no clear divisions between languages and dialects are often nearly mutuably unintelligible, so a character who knows the orcish language from one orc tribe might have a hard time understanding the dialect of a different tribe.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Different DMs handle it differently. I usually give one language at 5 points for free.

Yupp.

Roleplaying :D And I am free to interfere when two players speak too complicated with each other and let them do stupid things.

Not that much. I would give a circumstance penalty of -2 for the first day...

Ok, rechecked some things in the KPG.

1. You get 1 - 3 languages free as fluent (10 points). Common is one, demihumans I would give two and exceptionally educated persons 3 as given by the example on page 79.

2. Yeah, at maximum (1+ int mod) points at first level. See point 1. for more languages at start.

3. I'd ask for a skill check (not that high, depending on how slow everyone speaks) for both.
