[Kombat Kraziness] Help me build a 17th level encounter

So... round three is basically done. Nobody's even made a perception check about the Eye yet.
Or tried to.
Or talked about it OOC.

I suppose my warnings weren't clear enough.... Or something?
Still... it's been three rounds without it, apparently, being worthy of note. And the adventure is somewhat (fairly) predicated upon them destroying the eye.
(It's AC 30/25 and maybe even 20!!! {if they make the arcana checks}).
A 20 is like AC10 for a 1st level character.

Belkar and/or Aelioshi could have destroyed it, by themselves, already.

I put off having it do much last round, maybe that was my bad...
Anyway, it's time to blow the top off the xp budget.

Must not watch doctor horrible and argue with people about LEW. Must post.

The fights finally getting serious. Belkar finally got dominated. Gotta be annoying to finally be in position and get mind-controlled. Still he's buying the rest of the group time to do... something.
Surprised that people are missing the perception check. Still Aeloishi is in range soon.

Can I just say, wowza this is complex thing to deal with. Everything being siloed in powers is making it tolerable, but this'd be a bear to run in RL with my current (low) level of rules knowledge.

So cunning action by a PC on NPC mode saves the day. Is this my least favorite way for things to work out?

Yeah. Yeah it is. Still the fight was dragging a bit so I suppose I'll decide the glass is half full.

N'h's got 317 hit points and is stunned now. He gets to save. Next round? He gets to run. Or maybe Thunderwave, invisibility, run.

Let me get this straight: you expect a bunch of PCs for no reason to attempt an action that you cannot perform in the rules? I mean, there is one Fighter power that disarms, and that power sucks.

If I were making a combat encounter, I'd probably try to make it about combat, not trying to guess whatever hoop the DM expects me to jump through like a circus animal.

If you'd actually read the first post you'd see that it's a skill challenge.
If you've looked at the DMG you'd know that you can use skill challenges that target AC.

Oh, and there's about 5 references to it in the NPCs introduction to the scenario.

But if you haven't read any of that?
No, you'd definitely have no idea what to do.

It -is- a roleplaying game you know....
.... PC choices effecting the world...
... gaining info from interaction with NPCs...
Radical concepts to you perhaps? ;)

On the other hand, I definitely appreciate someone else posting to this thread; even if you haven't read it it's an improvement I suppose.

So welcome :).

btw, if you're saying "that wasn't such a good skill challenge" then I'm inclined to agree to you.

But it's not "no reason". Let alone no reason. But I mentioned it over and over and over again on the OOC, thread, and kept having people flashback to the NPCs words IC even.

But, definitely suggest reading the first couple of posts, they have, you know, words, which contain information, which, you know, might be useful for you if you're interested in, you know, having some sort of semi-intelligent conversation.

N'h 317-294 (more or less not sure about belkar's twin strike damage, he's got +10 for the attack that hit...)

edit: it's +5 not plus 10. Glad to have that sorted.
