Lack of Fast Heroes (rant)

Minimum score is 8... 8 is not as feeble as you describe. Please describe this character you are refering to.

Roll dice for stats. Have a character age. Suffer permanent damage. You know... play a role playing game instead of an MMO.

How does one make a cripple using the character gen rules? Straw man argument. Fallacious.

See above.

Watch more action movies. Guy gets shot, his buddy peptalks him into getting back in the fight. Happens a lot in very macho action films.

Not many movies where the pep talk takes someone from UNCONCIOUS and dying to back in the action. You can point some out for me. I'll know which movies to avoid.

nail products
At first, when I saw the nail products and spa equipment in the new Adventurers Vault, I thought they were going to be dumb, but now that I've really looked through them I'm kinda thinking it'd be neat to run a dungeon based salon adventure. *shrug*

promotional corporate gifts
These I found way too weak to even bother playing with. I mean seriously, how are these worth a feat? Am I missing something?

bag filter
Broken. Bro. Ken. I don't know how this stuff makes it past the playtesters. Filters for bags take away any semblance of game balance the bags originally had. This is nothing but munchkin fodder.

military connector
They stole this one so blatantly from the MMORPGS that they didn't even bother to change the name. It's a role playing game, not a roll-playing game.

Even though a lot of this is power creep, I'm all right with the direction they, at least appear, to be moving in. With the introduction of seo firms, it opens up a lot of narrative opportunities to what is otherwise a really dull part of the game.

china market research
I used to really like tables in my games, but I think that it's something that went away when I matured as a role-player. It was nice when I saw these, and it really made me kind of long for those early days of playing D&D with my cousin, but in the end I don't think that it's something I'll end up using.

filling machine
Yeah. I totally agree.

Swords kill people. Arrows kill people. Very few people who are stabbed with a sword or shot with an arrow get up and fight on. Let alone mauled by a werewolf or bitten by a dragon.

I think I have come up with hit point and healing rules that Regicide will like. Here they are. Delete all Hit Point and damage rules, and replace with this:

If your character is successfully hit in combat, flip a coin.
HEADS: Your character is either dead or incapacitated and can no longer adventure. Make a new character.
TAILS: Your character is bleeding and in severe pain. Take a -1 to all rolls until healed. Each time your character gets this result, take another -1. Each healing spell or day of rest removes one -1 penalty.

Doesn't sound like a fun game, does it? Much more fun to have abstract super-heroic combat, which is what ALL editions of D&D do. So yes, if you are 9th level you can be shot with a siege weapon at point blank range, or fall 60 feet, and shrug it off, in ANY edition of the game. Complaining that 4E is less believable/ realistic than 3E is like complaining that the Atlantic Ocean is less dry than Lake Superior.

The stats mean nothing to me in 4E. They are six numbers that are paired up and have no real-world meaning... Stick the numbers in, move the figures on the grid, toss some dice, drink some beer.

This is true to a point, but only to a point. Classes in 4E generally have a distinct association with their primary attributes. Sorcerers are screaming kids making an impression even on the universe (Cha), Wizards are scholarly types (Int), Rogues are quick (Dex) - but where did the clever part go?

This is precisely what I want more dexterity classes - because I feel the 4E crew has been able to capture the feel of the attributes in classes, and one feel I want more of is fast heroes. And no, to me being a fast hero doesn't have much to do with movement speed - it is all about quick reflexes and quicker wit.

The stats mean nothing to me in 4E. blah blah blah
Threadcrapping and attempting to start up an edition war all in the same post! Don't you get tired of this, Regicide? And I recall from the thread in the general area near New Years Day where a lot of people (a lot) stated that one of the worst things from 2009 was edition wars. I guess you weren't one of them, eh?

Personally I'm more peeved that there is no martial leader class that uses charisma as a prime stat!

Apparently for charisma to make you a good leader, you need to be flinging spells.

Folks - I've just booted Regicide for a month for repeated trolling. See what he was doing up-thread? Consider that an object lesson for what not to do.

Carry on with the thread, please!
