League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Who else could be in it?

Although it's a little before the given time period (by about a century, but hey, who's counting...) Defoe's Robinson Crusoe would make for an interesting addition to the LXG.

Thanks for the comment, but i'm not actually talking about the movie. One of my ideas for a future campaign revolves around the idea of the comic and i'm trying to get ideas for who else fits into that period.;)

Wouldn't want to run a PbP game like that in the Playing The Game forum, would ya? Cuz I sure could go for a game like that. Or Hellboy. Or Planetary. Or Authority. Or 100 Bullets. But I digress. A League game would be awesome. So I'm just gonna come out and beg you... PLEASE?!?!

BTW, what system are you planning to run it under, D&D -- d20 Modern -- M&M -- 4CTF -- Pulp Heroes (from Dungehedron) -- an amalgam of all of those?

Anyway, good luck with the game and keep us posted as to how it turns out.

Professor Moriarty would make a great villain. And that of course would mean Sherlock Holmes showing up.

I was trying to think of a good cowboy character over Tom Sawyer for a token American, but I'm at a loss for a fictional character that would work. Doc Holliday would have been cool, but alas, he was a real guy. Oooh, how about Shane!

EDIT: It just dawned on me. Yul Brynner in Magnificent Seven! Wasn't the robot he played in Westworld supposed to be this character too?

Dont know when the fiction was written, but if you want a period cowboy, that would be the Lone Ranger.

It would seem that Alan Moore agrees with you, since both of those characters are already in the comic.

Well, almost everyone from Sherlock Holmes has either shown up or been mention. Less true for Dracula, but obviously a Helsing would almost be iconic.

Cowboy fiction from the period seemed to focus on using real names with fictional adventures, which makes things a little trickier there.

Technically, I think the Man with No Name movies take place close to the right time period. As do the Sanjuro movies, now that I think about it. Magnificent Seven is also just about right.

Thanks for the interest, but I can only run one game at a time.;)

Hero System 5th Edition. Aside from the recent break to do Rokugan d20 my group has used Hero System for years. For this type of game, I can't think of a better system for my group.

Anyway, good luck with the game and keep us posted as to how it turns out
It would be a while from now. My Rokugan game will be running another six months at least. But when I get an idea for a new game I still make lots of notes. I have three campaign ideas now to pick from, when I start a new game.

True, though he would be tricky to use in a PC role at least. That unknown man with a mask and Indian sidekick who gets beat up all the time would probably work better in a NPC role.

Moriarty was in the first series...he was in the original books as the head of British Intelligence/Crimelord of London. Got mucked over. I think he's supposed to have killed Holmes, not sure.

Who was the big pilot/aviator around the turn of the century? I forgot.

Tom Swift was invented around this time period, yes?

Doc Savage, and proably the original Phantom, and the Phantom Stranger would all work I think.

Tarzan was around this time...and so John Carter could make an appearence too...

A somewhat aged John Carter would fit (he was ex-CSA, right?). Doc Savage and the Phantom - at least, the one in the first comics - are both too late I think - 30s pulp. Of course the Phantom line goes back to the 17th century so it could be an earlier Phantom.

For a fictional cowboy character, albeit not one originating in 19th century fiction, how about Jonah Hex?
