[Review, Possible Spoilers] The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

So, I take it it bears no resemblance to the comic whatsoever? I heard that, but I was still hoping that Fu Manchu or Moriarty would be the bad guy.

I've not read the comics. Thus, I consider the movie only as a movie, and not in comparison with its source. :)

The entire Venice section irritated me. I don't like it when they completely redesign a historical city in an illogical way just to allow a few special effects.

1) The canals in Venice are not 60 feet deep. The Nautilus would never have gotten past the harbor much less several blocks into the city before running out of room.

2) The canals in venice are the cities sewer system. They are full of trash, sewage, and are incredibly murky. Not crystal clear as shown in the movie.

3) The buildings in Venice do not rest upon graceful arches just under the surface of water that allow you to see and move under the buildings. They rest on the sunken remains of older buildings.

Bah.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie. :)

In the movie, set in 1899, the bad guy destroys St. Mark's Square even though, last time I checked, it was still standing. Also, Tom Sawyer, who was a scrapping lad in the Antebellum South, would have been as old as Sean Connery by 1899.

:D

Um, Mark, the American Civil War ended in 1865. To 1899 is only some 34 years, making Tom at worst somewhere notably short of 50. Meanwhile, Connery is 73...

Tom Sawyer is faintly autobiographical. It is set in Twain's stomping grounds as a youth, circa the 1840s, 1850s at the latest (Samuel Clemens was born in 1835). Tom Sawyer, in 1899, would be in his 60s. My hyperbole aside, I think the point still stands that the barely 20-something, not-yet-shaving actor who played Tom in the movie was way too young. ;)

When I first saw the trailors for this movie, the first thing that came to my mind, was hearing Sean Connery say, "I'll take movies that suck for $1000, Trebek!"

Okay, so what's with the vampire who can walk in the daylight?

That is one thing the movie got right in reference to its sources. In Dracula, the title vampire could indeed walk around in daylight, but doing so limited his supernatural powers.
