Leap Attack feat & Monsters?

The Leap Attack feat (Complete Adventurer, p. 110) allows you to double the normal damage from Power Attack or triple it when using a two-handed weapon.

Does a monster that applies 1.5x its Str modifier to damage for a particular attack form get to use the triple Power Attack damage since it is benefiting from the same 1.5x Str modifier that a person wielding a two-handed weapon receives?

I like the way you are thinking, but I don't think it can. My interpretation is based on the description of the benefit of the feat where it states "If you use this tactic with a two-handed weapon, ....". A natural attack is never a two-handed weapon* and so cannot benefit from the feat.

I could, however, see that maybe the intent was to allow it for such circumstances, and that the description was simply written with characters in mind. But that would be conjecture.

* Isn't there a feat for monks (or maybe those with Improved Unarmed Strike) that allows them to add 1.5x strength bonus with a two-handed blow? Hammer Blow maybe?

Sadly no. Only weapon wielders get that benefit of power attatck / leap attack. Giants can get plenty of milage from it though. Since wotc nerfed overun[to prevent charging through allies], try swapping giant's improved overrun with leap attack if the prerequirments are met.

And since you have Complete Adventurer [Killer], if you were not going to have giants use their 'Improved sunder" feat too much, swap that out with Brutal throw for "STR to Hit" with thier thrown boulders.

Power attack can be used with all natural weapons on a 1 for 1 basis. So, that would be 2 for 1 with leap attack.

The Leap attack feat has been errata'd to remove the double and triple damage variations, so this is a little easier to answer now.

Here's what the errata says:
Complete Adventurer errata 08022005 said:

The second sentence of the Benefit paragraph should
read as follows:
If you cover at least 10 feet of horizontal distance with
your jump, and you end your jump in a square from
which you threaten your target, you deal +100% the
normal bonus damage from your use of the Power
Attack feat.
So, whatever damage you would add because of the power attack, add it again (+100%) because of the leap attack.

No, it hasn't. The tripple damage rule is the third sentence. The errata changes the second.

Which would be good because otherwise you'd get 4x (100% more of 2x) with a two-handed weapon. No thanks.

Side note: after all the scaling back of double-damage we saw in the 3.0->3.5 conversion, why do they let it back in?

And a monster only gets 1:1 PA damage. Huh. Oops :)
